I'm going to be getting a Dimension 8400 in the next couple of days, and I would like to partition the drive into three sections so as to isolate the operating system from other files. I was thinking of doing the following partition on a 160 GB hard drive:

Sys_Vol - WinXP Pro operating system and other system files (10 GB)
App_Vol - Office, Media Player, other apps (50 GB)
Data_Vol - Documents, digital music, videos, etc. (100 GB)

Does the above partition sound reasonable? Are there any published instructions or recommendations for reinstalling Windows XP Pro and partitioning my drive in the manner I want? Finally, if you've already gone through this process yourself, were there any software CDs that Dell didn't ship to you that made it impossible to reinstall them after a partition? Were there any other gotchas for you?
