I reset Internet Explorer and now when I open my homepage it goes to the Internet Explorer Setup page. I check the required settings and the optional settings and the page says "settings were not able to be saved successfully." In the address line I have an http://runonce address. Gosh what have I done and how can I correct this so that IE opens up to my homepage.
Hi Red Dawn, Thanks for coming to my rescue. I do have SAP. I did go in and uncheck the Homepage Protection under the HiJack Protection. I still cannot set IE. still have the runonce in the address bar and in the bottom left hand corner of IE there shows an error on the page.
I also have Spyware Blaster, Malewarebytes, and Spybot.
Here's another page (from Microsoft) that discusses your problem. However, it involves editing your registry, which can be intimidating (and potentially dangerous) for the uninitiated. Suffice it to say that I looked into my registry, and have confirmed that the two keys/values specified in this article are indeed present. [That's the first thing you might consider checking --- if you feel courageous enough --- to see if one or both of these are missing from your registry. If you decide to proceed, do so with caution.]
Red Dawn and ky331, I would recommend not resetting IE. I reset IE because I was troubleshooting a problem for my sister who keeps receiving messages that IE has shut down. One of the fixes found was to reset IE. So I thought I would try this on my computer first before trying it on hers..and thus the runonce problem on my computer.
What I tried was running the reg fix that Red Dawn posted where you copy and paste the reg fix into notepad. This appeared to work and my homepage now comes up properly in IE. ky331 I am sure that the manual reg fix would also work although I was trying to avoid doing anything directly with the registry. Thanks to you both for the responses and major help with a problem that I caused. Annie
****for anyone following this thread this was the fix that worked for me.
The two fixes do the same thing... in the one you highlighted, a Notepad file is created, containing the required registry information, which is then executed --- merging that information into the registry. [Note for anyone considering this... it is critical that you use NOTEPAD, or some other editor that saves the information as simple text. You should not use a word processor that encodes any additional descriptive/stylistic information.]
The other version has the user directly entering the same information into the registry.
The bottom line being, things are now working again for you :emotion-1: .
Hi Red Dawn, I am glad that you had success the times you reset IE. I was so frustrated last evening when I kept receiving the runonce page. Thanks again for coming to my rescue. Everything is now working as it should now.
Thank you for the link to article. I will be reading it right after I post this message to you. Annie
