Why I hate McAfee

Now... admittedly I was already biased against McAfee.

Back in June, I helped my (now) fiancee buy an E1705. It came with a 36-Month subscription to McAfee Security Center. It was the only choice and I figured since she "paid" for it, might as well put it to use (versus free alternatives). Apparently, in the McAfee (or maybe Dell) Universe, 36 Months is equal to 90 Days. McAfee Security Center is now telling her that her 90-Day Trial has expired and she must purchase a renewal! Oddly, the Firewall portion of the software is fine. I feel like I spent a good deal of time walking through McAfee's (overly annoying) registration process only to have this happen. I miss the days when software was just software; none of this subscription nonsense. So, I get on an internet chat with McAfee support who bascially say: "Fax us proof you bought the software." That's all they would say. IT'S PREINSTALLED; how do I "prove" she bought the software?! Oh, and why can't I email proof? I could have sworn this was the 21st century, or did I miss something? So, unless McAfee will take an order acknowledgement email from Dell which has a line item about the 36-Month subscription as "proof"... my fiancee is . Any suggestions? Should I demand a replacement CD or something from Dell?

Maybe this should just be a catalyst for me to rid her machine of the bloatware all together?

The subscription purchase would be on the invoice you got with the computer -- If you no longer have the invoice, you can get one from the website
    I agree e-mail should suffice :)

I finally just to decided to get rid of all the McAfee Malware... I mean Security Center Software. It seemed every time I used her computer McAfee wanted something else from her. I moved her to avast! for AV and Comodo for FW. Suddenly, her system doesn't seem so lethargic!

    Good move performance wise..........

But, 36 month subscription?!?!?!  Couldn't have been cheap.

Shame you can't find some way to utilize it.

Well, she didn't specifically pay for the 36-month subscription. There was a special configuration of the E1705 that was 34% off and came pre-configured with the 36-Month subscription with no other options; you couldn't even change to PC-cillin or Norton.
