Windows Appearance

After experiencing a large number of blocked pop ups, I noticed the following.

1) The symbols on the 3 buttons in the upper right corner of each window (representing minimize, maximize/restore and close) had changed, and each symbol was replaced with an odd text character. The change affected appearance, and not funtion.

2) The arrow symbols on all menus changed, and each symbol was replaced with an odd text character. The change affected appearance, and not function.

3) The arrow symbols on all text boxes and check boxes changed, and each symbol was replaced with an odd text character. The change affected appearance, and not function.

I could not find any facility in Windows to change or revert these symbols. I looked into Windows Setup, the System Restore facility, and in the Control Panel's Display, and Appearance settings, and there is no applicable fix or adjustment. Obviously, this condition is not normal, but thus far, it has not affected the operation of my computer or any applications. However, the changes are at times somewhat confusing, and a return to a "normal" display appearance is most desirable.

Thank you very much,

Gooday

I've experienced this problem before after a computer game of mine (Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear) crashed many times. I believe it is a memory problem and thus it can be reverted with a simple reboot. But I think what is causing it to happen has to do with the program you use to block popups doing something silly with the memeory. What do you use?

I use the pop up blocker that comes with sbcglobal's brouser. I have tried a number of reboots, system restores, Norton antivirus, adware remover, spyware remover, and the problem still exists.  Dell has recommended a partial reloading of Windows ME, so that's what I'm about to do. I just need to check a few things, to make sure I'm not compounding my problem.

Thank you very much for your input, it was much appreciated.

    Best wishes,

    Gooday
