Every time I turn on my computer, open MS Word or Excel, or open Outlook a box that says Windows Installer comes up and tries to install something, but it always fails. Why did this start and how do I stop it?! It doesn't keep me from opening any of the programs, but I do have to cancel the installation or wait until it fails and then open the program again. Help!
I am running Windows XP Home Ed. on Inspiron 6000. Unable to install any other software due to win installer not being found.
I have tried about all of the references listed on the support boards but to no avail, as well as fixes at microsofts websight.
Somewhere along the line I read that Direct X 9 maybe causing this problem, so when trying to deal with Direct X I inadvertently messed that up too, I now get an error message stating my video card or drivers are not compatible.

jkpinter,
Have you found a resolve for this yet?
I was finally able to run Windows Live One Care and it appears to have fixed the problem for me (finger crossed).
