GX620 with no sound
Hi all
I have a GX620 running WinXP SP2 which is having sound problems. I have downloaded the latest drivers from the Dell site, but that hasn't helped. I should have the integrated sound, as I didn't order anything fancy from the machine.
When I look in the sound settings, it doesn't recognize the Soundmax digital adapter, and only shows the modem #0 Line Playback as an option. Under the Device manager, it shows the adapter, and says it is running fine. Under the properties/multimedia devices, the entries there have properties which say the driver is installed but it's not working properly.
BIOS has the onboard sound turned on.
Not sure where the problem is here. Anyone have any insight?
Thanks,
Eric

Hi SpeedStep, thanks for the input.
I installed the drivers you recommended, installed the soundmax driver and it is still in the same state.
My service tag is:
Just as a background, I put Win XP on here with a RIS installation and installed SP2 and MS Office 2003 software via Active Directory.

Accounts on a domain that are not included in the LOCAL PC "ADMINSTRATORS" group
will be UNABLE TO INSTALL DRIVERS.
Many Zelot administrators also put in polices that override local policys and dont
allow you to install.
LOCAL NOT ATTACHED TO ANY LAN C: ADMINISTRATOR must install the driver.
