blue screen problem continued

I keep getting a blue screen that pops up and says that I have hardware or software that is not installed properly.  I've removed all the possible programs and I've run my antivirus software, but the problem is still occuring.  I don't know what else to do.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

For any BLUE SCREEN STOP errors, we will need to know the exact contents of the message that appears to even know where to start searching for the problem.

My blue screen says:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.  If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

My computer is updated, and I've already uninstalled all of the possible programs.  Any further advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm not sure how to start my computer using the last know good configuration, but I will do the file search in safe mode.

To repair this problem, you will need to to use the recovery console. You can get to this by starting your computer using the Windows XP installation Disc. Follow the steps at the link below. After you get to a prompt, type the following

COPY \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE\WININET.DLL \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WININET.DLL

Then type Exit and see if your computer starts up.

That is what the error report said, but it could not determine the specific driver.  I can start my computer in safe mode.

Instead of Safe Mode, can you start the computer using "Last Known Good configuration"?

If not, in Safe mode, can you do a file search for all files ending in .dmp (*.dmp)?
What size is the file with the most recent date?

My blue screen gives me this error message:  STOP: c0000221{Bad Image checksum}

The image wininet.dll possibly corrupt.  Header checksum doesn't match computed checksum

I can't even boot in Safe Mode.  When I did a diagnostic, I got the following error:

DST Short Status Test

Fail

Code 1000-0142

Unit 4: Drive Self Test failed.  Status byte = 79

Can anyone help me with this problem or at least tell me how I can boot from my dvd drive?

Thanks.
John

When you have the option to start the computer in Safe mode, one of the options will be Last Know Good Configuration. Choose that option.

There is more information under IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I would need to see that info.

Example:
Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (ox20000001, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xF6EA8BBF)

*** USBPORT.SYS - Address F6EA8BBF base at F6E8F000, DateStamp 3f04cf17

Beginning dump of physical memory

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

This error generally means hardware or driver failure. Are you able to start your computer in safe mode?

I ran the search in safe mode.  Here are my results:

user.dmp  24KB  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users

All of the following were found in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump and were 88KB

Mini091305-01.dmp, Mini091305-02.dmp, Mini092105-01.dmp, Mini092405-01.dmp, Mini092705-01.dmp, Mini092805-01.dmp, Mini092905-01.dmp, Mini100405-01.dmp, Mini100505-01.dmp, Mini101105-01.dmp, Mini101305-01.dmp, Mini101705-01.dmp, Mini101805-01.dmp, Mini101905-01.dmp, Mini102005-01.dmp, Mini102105-01.dmp

The most recent of these files was Mini102105-01.dmp.  It was on 10/21/05 at 8:45 am.  All of these occured on various dates and times ranging from 8/28/05 to 10/21/05.  If you need specific dates and times for each, please let me know.

Thanks again!

I sent you the file.  I tried starting in the last known good configuration, but it doesn't seem to have done much.
