Dell Dimmension 3000 is so loud!!!

I own a 8400 and it's awesome. I can't even tell if on or not since is so silence. Well anyways I went over to my friend house. He have a Dell Dim 3000 2.8ghz and is so loud. I was wondering if it's just a model thing or is there something wrong with the computer? What do you guys think? Any Dim 3000 owner out there?

It depends on what's causing the noise. The 3000 is a budget model, and just as an economy car is usually noisier than a luxury model, it's bound to have corners cut relative to the 8300, which is a much higher end system.

I also find the 3000/4600 extremely loud.  For mine, it is the K0456 fans (2.0 A) mounted directly to the back of the computer.  It seems as if the shroud amplifies how loud the fan is.  And the BIOS keeps revving it up when the processor warms.  for some reason, my OptiPlex GX260/270/280 are quieter even though they use a similar 2.0A fan which are also mounted to the back.  So the shape of the shroud must be part of the reason for the loudness.

you could add an extra fan in the front to reduce heat, and increase air flow. it helps alot. www.geocities.com/ravipcplanet/

I too have a Dimm  3000 and I find its the fan in the back Once and a while take an aerosol can and blow it out Really bad if you have pets in the house as hairs get blown into it!!,

Good suggestion to add a second fan in the front,

yeah, i find that the hair from my dog gets into my pc airvents with dust. one time, i let it get sooooo bad, in my 2350, over like 3 years without cleaning it, you could not see the indicator lights on the front, they were blank, the fans were constantly on high. i opened it up and..... dust everywhere! i touched the hardrive while it was off, and almost got burned! it was overheating! i took off the front cover, and 1 big blob of dust rolled out on the floor. i vaccumed the outside, and used compressed air on the inside, took it apart, and now, is decently quiet. people, clean your computers every now and again!

It's the model...we have a Dimension 3000 as well that is extremely noisy (the cpu fan).  Our other Dell models do not have this problem.  Dell has replaced the fan twice with no effect.  Dell, can you please fix this problem with a BIOS update or replace our computer with a different model??

is it loud as soon as you turn on the pc, or does it gradually get louder. If it gradually gets louder, try my solution by adding in another fan in the front of the case to bring in cool air. Remember to point the fan inward so that the airflow goes in to bring cool air in the pc. it says airflow with an arrow on the side of the fan. www.geocities.com/ravipcplanet/ i did it on my 2400. they have the same or similar chassis.

I spray the fan out once a month with compressed air and it has seemed to stay quiet!!
