Dell 3100cn Color Laser: 007-340 Restart Printer Error Message

My 3100cn has printed approx 41,000 sheets since arrival Feb 2006. Last week it began producing paper jams near the Bias Transfer Roller in the back. After perhaps 5-6 jams in this area over the next 500 sheets I now have the error  007--340 Restart Printer. I've restarted multiple times, even with the printer powered down overnight, but to no avail. The printer is out of warranty. Is this something I can diagnose and service myself or have the rock and hard place converged on my location?

Randy, If you go to support.dell.com and choose "troubleshooting and FAQs" and then type in your error 007-340 in the "search for solutions" box you will get access to the step by step troubleshooting guide that will walk you through troubleshooting this error.

Once you determine what is going on then you can determine if it is worth repairing not.

Indeed, that's what TechSupport feels the problem is, although I'm going to give the repair a try. With about $500 in unopened toner along with fresh Imaging Drum and 2 toner cartridges with less than a week on them at the time this got started, I'd hate to give up too quickly.

Thanks for the assistance.

definitley sounds like vertical transport assembly and possibly machine control unit is hooped.

wouldn't suggest you try and service that yourself. . . .  sorry for the not so good news.

I also have a 3100cn, actually it is my wife’s. Earlier this year there was nothing meaningful on error 007-340 both on a forum and the web, but recently, there is more on this. When I turn on the printer, it runs through an electronic self test, the toner cartridge drum rotates to the next cartridge, and then error 007-340 appears.

Is this the same action anyone else has seen?

Does it seem similar to the vertical transport unit failure you had?

What and where is the vertical transport unit?

How much was the replacement?

I called Dell and the help was less than stellar as my printer was out of warranty. I have no problem working on the printer myself.

Please HELP, anyone!

UPDATE !!

Problem fixed and then it happened again in 2 months. It appears this happens when we have a power problem, i.e., brownout or spike. The printer is now on our UPS. Solution was to go into digital output diagnostics and turn on all the drive motors, then run through several sheets of paper. I got great support from Dell USA.

I have the same error.  I'd get the "restart printer" message then paper gets jammed in the back.  I noticed that Jfee L had a fix for it, but since this is my first time working with a dell printer. I don't know where to find the digital output diagnostics. Could anyone please assist me? Thank you.
