Hooking up second monitor ?
XPS400 2.8Gig 820 D Dual Core -VIIV

I would like to see what the steps are needed to hooking up a second monitor to my PC ? I have a Graphics card with the ability to hook up a secongd monitor and I also have a TV Tuner Card ,the name and type are listed in my system spec's above ! The main reason for the second monitor would be for TV, I want to not have to veiw it in a small box on mt current and only monitor hooked up a 19" FP. Would anyone who has gone thru this proccess please give me directions on how to proceed ,starting with what cables I wil need ,my TV Tuner is hooked up to a coax cable . It seems my fist step would be to hook up the second monitor ,which Iam going to purchase a small FP so I can fit both monitors on my PC desk ,side by side ! I now have my coax cable hooked up to a surge rpotector and a line from my PC, the TV in connection running to the TV out coax cable hook up on the surge protector a Cyper Power 10 plug 3600 joules surge protector .which also had network in and out line and phone in and out hook ups !

I believe that graphics card has one DVI and one VGA connector, so you need monitors and cables that can connect to both.
I use dual monitors and it works great.

Thank you for your reply Peter, so I gueess what you are saying is once the second monitor is connected it will be detected by the system andthen its just a matter of configuring it thru the setting in my desktop properties ,it has imagwes of monitor #1 & 2 and says drag the monitor to icon to match the physicial arrangement of the monitor ? Seems pretty straight forward and it all goes as it should fairly easy !
Now ot go look for a small monitor ,I will be using this second monitor mostly for veiwing TV with my TV Tunwer card however as time goes o Iam sure I will find other reasons that will make having access to another monitor usefull .Can I ask what you use you second monitor for ?

I have a TV card and sometimes use one monitor for the TV while doing other work. However, I find two monitors to almost always be useful. For example, when reading email newsletters, I keep the browser open in one window and read the emails in the other. That way, I can click on links in the emails without the browser and email covering each other. For software development it is really nice. You can never have enough screen real estate.

I first of all want to thank everyone for their input .However I do have to take issuse with this satement by Peter345 "believe that graphics card has one DVI and one VGA connector, so you need monitors and cables that can connect to both." I just took a look at the back of my PC and where my current monitor is hooked up therer is another hookup exactly the same as the one I hooked my FP to ! I believe this card has the ability to hook two monitors up now Iam not sure if its called a DVI hook up or a VGA hookup ,however it one or the other I will tell you there is only this additionial hookup and no other ,however since its exactly the same as the one my Dell FP is hooked up to Iam assuming its a standard monitor hookup allowing you to connect a second monitor .If anyone has any futher info reguarding this subject ,your input would be grealtly appreciated !
