Questions about D/Port compatibility and DVI specs with Latitude D830

I've just bought a Dell Latitude D830 (yet to arrive). The D830 has no DVI port but as I'm thinking of buying a monitor, I am thinking of getting a Dell D/Port advanced port replicator.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=310-7704#Overview

says the DVI connector is DVI-D.

What are the max supported resolutions (or does that depend on the laptop)?

Also can someone confirm (preferably with references) that the D/Port PR01X is compatible with the D830 because I can't find that on the Dell website or the D830 manuals or the D/Port manual. Some of the ebay D/Port listings and usenet posts suggest that the PR01X supports the D830 but others omit it from the compatible model list.

Are there different versions of the PR01X?

My D830 is 1680x1050 resolution and 128MB QUADRO NVS 135M, 2GB, XP Pro and Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz.

I would like to get an external monitor 22" or 24" with 1680 x 1050 or 1920 x 1200, and my guess is that those resolutions would work better on DVI than VGA.

The DVI port can handle a 22" or 24" LCD so do not worry.

For compatibility check with Dell but I am pretty certain any D-Series dock work with your D830. Make sure you have a PA-10 90W AC adapter.

Any resolution beyond 1280x1024 on VGA looks extremely fuzzy and makes your head spin. Definitely must go with DVI

I have been using that D/Port with my D800 for four years and love it, never connected an external monitor, but that DVI-Digital sounds interesting.  Came with its own 90 Watt that had a much longer AC Cord than the one with the laptop :)

I also have and would highly recommend the D/View Laptop Stand which is designed to use with the D-Port.

One word of warning is that although my D800 does the "Hot-Dock"/"Un-Dock" with absolutely no problems, my new D830 does not like to do that at all.

I have been many times into BIOS Setup to enable that feature and have flashed the BIOS (through each release with no difference on Hot-Dock) to the latest version 10 (was delivered last month with version 5)..

I do love this D830, that would be the only anomaly with the system seen and it is not a problem as my normal usage would usually involve shutdowns anyway.

I returned yesterday and latched on Dock and resumed from (an un-docked) Hibernate and that is an absolute no-no. Did not see the expected BSOD and a normal shutdown/Reboot on Dock was successful.

You can expect a nice discount offer on Dell Accessories in your Email, shortly after delivery.

I looked on US Dell site under purchasing the D830 and it lists the GH074 as the appropriate D/Port under the Electronics and Accessories tab.

They don't list the D/Port or D/Dock accessories in detail on the Dell Asia Pacific website (I am in Australia) but I configured the D830 with the D/Port and looked at the print/fax view and it lists GH092.  Can't find any info about that so I don't know what the difference is (maybe the PA-10 power supply is absent or maybe a 135W version, or the D/Port is a regional variant?).
