8400 BIOS

hI WILL i UPDATED  MY BIOS IT SEEM ALL WENT THREW OK TILL THE BLUE SCREEN WENT BY  AND BLACK   NO TURNING ONTO WINDOWS  i CAN HIT ENTER CENTER TAB  OTHER BUTTONS  AND IT WILL GO INTO WINDOWS    ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS   i KNOW i CAN CLEAR COMS TO ALL BIOS  BUT THIS NEWER ONE SEENS TO BE WORKING BETTER   ON MY LEAF BLOWER FAN i HAD    i GOT THE 8400 HEATSINK TO RUN COOLER ADDED A FAN ON ITS SIDE    BUT STILL FEELS NOW THE CASE FAN IS SLOW   MY 350 P NEXT TO IT IS FANNING ALOT MORE THEN THE 8400    THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP

From what I understand you have encountered problems after doing a BIOS update.  If so, I would suggest clearing the NVRAM by following the procedure I have listed below.  Sometimes after a BIOS update the newer BIOS version may have a conflict with information that is stored in the NVRAM.  This conflict can cause boot up problems.

  • Reboot system and enter the BIOS Setup by pressing F2. 
  • Turn on Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and  Num Lock.
  • Press ALT + E then ALT + F (should hear beep) then ALT + B

Keep in mind that clearing the NVRAM will default all your BIOS options back to their factory recommended settings.  Not really a big deal since you're probably using most of the factory settings anyways.  The defaulting will require you to re-enter the time/date, re-adjust your boot order if you have made any changes, re-adjust your power management options if you have changed them, etc.  In otherwords settings that were changed to your personal liking will have to be re-set.  If your system doesn't have a floppy drive the defaulting will turn on the floppy drive controller.  If this happens and you get a Diskette Drive error on boot up then simply go into the BIOS and turn off the option for the Diskette Drive.  The error message will be gone on the next reboot.

Thanks but didnt work  it beeped and so on but checked  when it came on the blue screen now didnt  show  hit enter and space few times  windows came on restart f2   checked bios is still a09 not change  set time turned off   did the coms clear   started up  blue scren on 1 minnit late hit buttons again to turn on window    maybe do I need to put winds cd in and hit the repair to fix it        fan is now running too slow I think    put a little fan on the heat sink   but 1 hour later check heatsink copper pips  felt kinda hot   its a 3 by 3 fan  anyone know of a good cooling fan or rpms I may need for cooling    thanks for any help

What BIOS version did you try updating to?  A09 is the latest and last BIOS version Dell has released for your model.  If you have that version installed then there is no other version to update it to.

 

If the system is successfully booting and the blue screens are appearing when Windows is loading then you very possibly have a problem with Windows.

Thanks for the help ya  tryed a few things this morring still not auto going to windows so I well try the windows   r    repair     trying to update drives  down loaded to c drive  and desk top but   when tyring to update each  one its not working    boy this 8400 is a reall tester on skills    hands on doesnt allways work  need to on line school and learn more   thanks for all the help

Well thanks anyway  hours and hours  later coundnt get new install of windows eather so boy this a09 upgrade turned out to be the biggest mess    ok  aftere coundnt even do new windows install on another drive   would come to installing windows  press new install  and cp  lock dead again   so here is what I did   went and tryed a08   no luck    tryed a06   no luck went all the way back to  a01  what I had in the frist place  bodda boom  bodda bang   blue dell screen  few seconds later windows went right back on alittle slower but most likely when I clean drive all up it will all be better       so they say if its not broken leave it alone  that will work for me now        just wanted to thanks everyone
