Need Help with Re-installing Windows XP Home on a Dell Laptop Inspiron 1501...

   Help

I am having several issues with my 2005 Dell Laptop Inspiron 1501, it came loaded with Windows XP Home and worked fine up untill one day it did an automatic update for Mozilla Firefox browser and suddenly it popped up a Windows Blue Error Screen and Dumped Physical Memory - The Blue Error Screen reads as follows:

----------------------------------------------------------

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you may need.

If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

***STOP:  0x00000050 ( 0xFF95F6E5, 0X00000000, 0XFF95F6E5, 0X00000000 )

Beginning dump of physical memory

Physical memory dump complete.

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

*I attempted System Restore with - No Success - System Restore is now missing

*I attempted the Dell Re-installation Disk -  No Success

*I was able to reformat the hard drive - but I still cannot get

past the Blue Error Screen Messages

Each time I attempt to re-install the

operating system with the Dell System Disc Windows XP Setup

loads the setup files but instead of Setup loading the start setup

by pressing "Enter" page the Windows Blue screen pops up and

shuts down windows to protect my PC from damage before it can

begin the install process.

The system passes all Diagnostic tests.

Sometimes there are different Blue Error

Screen messages but most of the time its

the one noted above.

I have not tried FDISK yet nor have I tried to install OS

from MS-DOS prompt, mainly because I am not familiar

with the proceedure to do so.

P.S. I am considered fairly computer and software literate.

Once when I had issues and even now, I use a Hard Drive wipe program, free version and wipe out the hard drive completely, then I insert the Windows XP disk to do a clean reformat and reinstall.  You may wish to try this.  Also when you install windows, make sure you do not have your printer, or modem connected if by chance you did.

From a tech support perspective, have you tried running memtest86?  Personally, I've found that to be better than the older memory diagnostics included on the Resource CD.  I believe newer versions of the Dell Resource CDs have a memory diagnostic that is as good as memtest, but I'm not sure when the change was made so I don't know if yours includes it.

The stop error you mention is dealing with memory or pagefile, and usually data being transfered between the two.  I'm not sure if you already knew that, or whether it helps, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case it does.
