Vostro 400 - Quad Core support?
Do all vostro 400 motherboards support the q6600 quad core processor?.. specifically the part number # RN474? The reason why I ask is because I know that the inspiron 530 has two revisions of its motherboard where one doesn't support the quads. Thanks in advance

I have 16 Vostro 400's with 2.4 Quads, I check them for you and they are all Motherboard No. 0GN723. I'm not sure about your board but I do know that the Quad system comes with a 350w PSU rather than a 300w.

Thanks RoHe,
I knew I had read that somewhere but I did not want to mention it without being able to quote the source.
Good Work

From the user manual:
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
"Due to the unique architecture of the Intel Core 2 Quad processor, your system board and power supply must be included when upgrading processors."
If I understand that correctly, if you didn't order the quad processor at the time you purchased the system, the exisitng motherboard and power supply won't support it, and would have to be upgraded along with the new CPU.
And you might want to read this thread.
