Inspiron 1720 BSODs
My laptop is an Inspiron 1720 T8300 4G ram running Vista Home Premium. After 4 BSODs in as many days I updated the BIOS from A07 to A08. That was on May 31. I have had 2 BSODs since then, but for some reason these are not showing up in the list in View Problem History (from Control Panel System Maintenance etc..). However, I have set the laptop to not shut off after BSODs, then I take a photo with my digital camera. I was trying to copy a "snippet" (using Vista snipping tool) to this message, but it won't paste into the message. The info from June 9th is:
** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0x968D5776,0xB1265A5C,0x00000000)
** win32k.sys - Address 968D5776 base at 96800000, DateStamp 47c78718
The info from today's BSOD is:
** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005,0x970D5776,0xB3DE7608,0x00000000)
** win32k.sys - Address 970D5776 base at 97000000, DateStamp 47c78718
At the time of the BSOD today I had open the following software:
Windows Mail, Outlook Mail (2003), MSN Messenger, and IE 7. I had just clicked on a link to open a pdf file. With the June 9th BSOD I had Excel (2003) open, clicked on something in the worksheet and got BSOD.
Of the 4 BSODs from May 28 to May 31, only 1 had the win32k.sys part in it.
This laptop is a replacement Dell sent for my previous purchase, which had memory errors when the Dell PC checkup was run, and the webcam didn't work. When this replacement arrived the first thing I did was run the PC checkup, and it had no memory errors. After I spent a few days installing software, it had the same memory errors as the last laptop (memory address test, memory bit high test, and memory checkerboard test scans all failed), so I ran the diagnostics, which showed no memory problems.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks!
