SP1 Question
If I haven't received SP1 through Windows Update by now (6/26), is it still possible that they just haven't gotten to me yet? Should I wait a little longer?
I looked at MS article 948343 and am pretty sure that I don't have any of the issues mentioned there. (And I did update a couple of drivers.) I tried manually downloading the updates mentioned in Jesse_L's post of 5/13 and Windows says that the updates don't apply to my machine.
I chatted with a guy from MS and he suggested that I uninstall my antivirus and then download SP1. That didn't seem like a very good idea so I didn't try it.

If you download the stand alone SP1 about 500 MB if I remember correctly, you could disable virus protection and make sure your not on-line when you do the update. You need to look for the stand alone Vista SP1.
I used the download since I got access a few weeks before general availability also have concerns about a large SP update being with Windows update.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I tried downloading the 3 updates but Windows said that none of them apply to my computer.
You're saying that I can download SP1 and then disconnect from the internet before I install it? I hadn't thought of that. I thought it would begin installing itself automatically. I guess I could try that.

If Win_Update has not given you SP1 then that means it thinks something is not compatible, be it hardware or unlikely a software.... regardless these are the steps to take to download SP1:

It's ok if those updates do not apply.
Yes you can manually apply the SP1 update.... and no you don't have to disconnect from the internet... it will install after downloading.... the whole process should take one hour, give or take a few minutes... the first part is about 20 minutes... and the PC will reboot a few times... just let it do its thing until done and you are back to the login screen....
once done, login... when you get to the desktop, go to Windows Update and install any Important and maybe the Recommended ones... reboot in between each install.... and when done you are set ....
SP1 is faster with regards to file copying and transfers, and also reboots and shutdowns.
Once your drive is indexed you will notice the speed difference.
