946 wont align properly

Hi I am having trouble with my new ink cartridge, this is only the second time I've done this and don't remember having this much trouble with it the first time.I have tried everything suggested in the similar threads about unplugging, restarting, reinstalling, etc. and my printer still thinks that there is tape on the ink cartridge. What do I do now? I have two projects due this friday that require a working printer.

If these are Dell Series 5 ink cartridges, then I'd try re-installing the drivers they way suggested and you'll be able to align the ink cartridges again.

You could try control panel, printers and faxes, preferences, maintenance, align print cartridges.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Starting at the bottom, USB Root Hubs, and working your way to the top, USB Universal Controllers, un-install everything in that section.

Restart your computer. Windows will find everything again and correct the problem one. Please be patient. The new hardware wizard may work 3-5 minutes before it's done.

Thank you for the advice, it unfortunately still hasn't worked. It now wont read my printer when I plug it in. I'll give it a try tomorrow, if there is anything else you can suggest I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks again.

I have tried everything that you suggested to the word and the printer still reads, "Alignment problem. Remove tape from cartridges or check troubleshooting."

First thing to suggest is to unplug the printer from the wall. Remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds, then plug everything back in. This usually will reset the printer and may clear your error messages.

Second, try the Dell Printer error codes and see what it says.

Third try the Step-By-Step Troubleshooting Guide. Click on Technical Support.

Let me know.

The printer still isn't aligning the black ink properly, if at all. I'm going to give the tech support a call for somemore help tomorrow.

Thank you for the help.
