Precision 490 Workstation - Static using headphones!!

Im getting static/ambient internal case noise / interference through both the front headphone jack and the rear on a precision 490. its using the sigmatel sound card. are there any fixes for this? This is critical since most of the video editing I do requires the use of volume (obviously) that can only be done using headphones (shared office environment). Dont  and didnthave this problem on optiplex 745 or 755.

thanks

On some models (don't know about this one) there have been issues with "noise" associated with the Sound Enhancements.  If there is a Sound Enhancement options (panel) in your system, disable any Sound Enhancements and see if that takes care of the problem.

Are you referring to a piece of software part of the audio driver? or an actual piece of hardware in the case? I dont have access to look today but would help to know what Im looking for tomorrow.

The sound enhancements is a software panel that has options for things such as reverb, chorus, etc.  I don't have that on my PC's but I think if you go to the Control Panel and Sounds that it MAY be located there.

Someone also mentioned the routing of the front panel cabling near the hard drive SATA connection on the motherboard that was causing some "whine and noise" and they rerouted the cable and it helped.
