Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility and IE8

I have an XPS M1330 with an internal Dell Mobile Broadband Mini-card 5720 VZW for Verizon.  The Dell Mobile Broadband Utility (DMBCU) now reports an APPCRASH upon launch only when Windows Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is installed.  I'm certain it is due to IE8 and probably the required MeadCo Zeepe add-ins that are required for dmbcu.exe functionality.  Upon uninstallation of IE8, the dmbcu.exe works flawlessly.

Is there any update or plan to update the DMBCU for the 5720 VZW minicard?

Anyone else running into this issue?

This interesting.  I use Live Meeting all the time and I do have 1.3 installed.  However, I didn't get this problem until I installed IE8.  As soon as I uninstalled IE8, the problem went away.  Were you able to re-install LM 1.3 again, or is it still uninstalled?

Okay.  I have corrected the issue.  With IE8 installed and DMBCU crashing when attempting to start the application, here is what I did:

1. I uninstalled DMBCU

2. I uninstalled Office Live Add-in 1.3

3. I reinstalled DMBCU.  (All okay and working)

4. I reinstalled Office Live Add-in 1.3  (DMBCU started failing again)

5. I uninstalled Office Live Add-in 1.3 (DMBCU working)

6. I uninstalled Office LiveMeeting 2005 (NOTE: I still have Office LiveMeeting 2007 installed and working)

7. I reinstalled Office Live Add-in 1.3 (DMBCU working)

So, I have IE8, DMBCU and Office Live Add-in 1.3 working fine.  However, I did have to uninstall Office LiveMeeting 2005, which is okay, since everyone should be on LiveMeeting 2007 now.  2005 was only hosted, and since MS has upgraded all LM services to 2007, is a non-issue.

Also, based on previous posts this not only works for my card (Verizon), but others, as well.

Regards,

AR

I found a solution that worked for me in Windows 7.  Will likely work in Vista also.

I am using IE8 and had all the problems experienced by the others.
If Windows recongizes the chip, it would show up as "Novatel Wirelss CDMA" in the devices section. 1. Create a new "Dial Up Connection" 2, Set the Dialing phone number to *99# That is it! Connect using that connection.

No user id or password reqiured. And no need for Dell/Verizon hybrid software either.

How to install any Dell WWAN Card driver on any system & Possible fixes for non working drivers

Possible fixes for non working drivers. 1st follow these steps before installing & editing drivers (IMPORTANT STEPS)

(Fixes error codes 9999 & 9998 [Unknown errors])

- Make sure you have the latest Internet Explorer installed

- Install the latest version of MeadCo Zeepe (Required by the utility)- www.zeepe.com/.../default.asp

- Ensure that ALL MeadCo plugins are enabled in internet explorer (Select 'Run without permission' in the dropdown menu and you should be able to see them)

- Before installing a driver, make sure all the old drivers are uninstalled (The Dell mobile utility in programs & feat; 5520 Drivers under device manager)

EDITING DELL DRIVERS TO WORK ON ANY SYSTEM:

The original Dell WWAN drivers will work perfectly on any system (Well atleast with 32 bit installations) .

But in the driver installation it runs a system check,

which blocks you from installing the driver on any laptop. We need to remove this check.

How:

- Download the WWAN driver from dells website for your operating system & specific WWAN [Drivers my differ according to network] (From another laptops page on the support site)

- Run the exe. It will fail saying'not a compatible system' etc etc.

- Before clicking ok to exit! Go to App Data - Local - Temp and search for Dell. (Go to app data by typing %appdata% in the address bar in explorer and go up one folder)

- You will find an msi file something along the lines of 'Dell Mobile Broadband card utility.msi' [If you cant find it, you exited the installation! go back..]

- Copy that MSI File somewhere like the desktop.

- Exit the installer

- Download & Install MSI STUDIO, select repackage msi file, open the MSI file that you copied to the desktop

- Search for the word 'Compatible' it will bring up lots of table results

- Delete all the table strings that came up on the search results

- Export the Edited MSI File

- Run it and install

Still no luck?

If it cannot detect your device, you have the wrong driver, It isn't properly installed, or you havent yet uninstalled old drivers in the Device manager & Program files before loading a new driver
