High pitched sound with integrated 1.3M Pixel Webcam

I purchased an Inspiron 1545 for my college-bound son last month.  He has started using the integrated webcam, and there is an audio problem  It has always made a loud and high pitched noise or squeak when using (sometimes it sounds like feedback).  It doesn't seem to happen to any of his friends when they are using their webcams.  What is the problem and what do we do to fix?  He is leaving very shortly for college, so any help asap would be great.
