Dell 5100cn Snow Leopard Driver

I was glad to see that someone had posted the need for an OS X 10.6 driver for the 5100cn. My 5100 cn has been a great printer...up until I upgraded to Snow Leopard. I didn't get an error message when trying to print to it, it just didn't do anything. So, I removed the old driver and now I have to use a generic Postscript driver that only offers duplex printing. My office 5100cn has 640 Mb RAM and extra media trays, all of which can't be used now. I hope Dell provides an updated driver for this printer soon. If you find out anything I would sure appreciate learning about it.

I would still like Dell to update this software. This printer is too good to get left behind.

I also installed the 1.24 GB of printer drivers. Now I wish I hadn't. Wonder where they were installed?

I'm still lost. How do you get the old 5100cn printer driver to work with Rosetta? I've heard the name "Rosetta", but I have no idea how to use it. I re-downloaded the Mac OS X 2006 printer driver for the 5100cn and it appeared to install, but the printer is still not listed as an available printer. Please, a little help would be appreciated.

Rosetta is the emulator Apple designed to allow PowerPC applications to run on Intel hardware. It's not installed by default, so you need to put in your Snow Leopard DVD and look in "Optional Installs" for Rosetta. Once you install that and add your printer (installing the drivers doesn't add the printer, you still have to do that bit), the printer should work.

Aha! It works! I had installed Rosetta previously and I had installed the 5100cn driver. Apparently, the order in which these installs occur is important. Add Printer did not originally see the 5100cn. I reinstalled Rosettta, then uninstalled and reinstalled the 5100cn driver, connected the printer via USB cable and there it was. Then I reconnected it to the network and added it as it originally was as a network printer. Everything back to normal. I would like to sincerely thank everyone that offered advice.

I am interested if this fixes my 3100cn issue as well. I can only print B&W.

Even though I am a fairly new mac user I went ahead and gave it a shot. I downloaded the old osx driver from dell. It's a sit file so I had to figure that out as well. Once unzipped, ran the dell installer and was told I need rosetta. It automatically downloaded from the web and installed. I reset the printing system and installed the dell 3100cn driver and I now have color printing. Probably should have made this a new topic since it is not really related to the 5100cn but oh well....

I have tried this as well, but I can't print 2 sided documents since my switch to Snow Leopard. Any suggestions?

Anyone installing Lion OSX 10.7  Rosetta support is removed so you wont be able to install it.

Rosetta can be installed on 10.6.X  from the Optional Installs package installer located in the Optional Installs folder on your Snow Leopard DVD.

You missed the point of my post. The old Dell driver that depends on Rosetta is no longer needed at all. Go with the third party approach and you don't have to worry about installing the unsupported legacy software.

I've officially used these same drivers all the way to my current yosemite configuration and they continue to work for me so I haven't had to produce any new packages thusfar.
