Dell 5100cn printing with a color over the entire page (over the original print out)

It appears your Magenta toner is "bleeding" everywhere.....

If you open the front door (lifting the square latch on front) then open the top drum door, what does the exposed portion of the drum look like? I would bet it's a shade of Magenta. Normal color should be a dark charcoal gray. Lift the drum unit out and examine the interior. Lots of loose toner around? This stuff will need to be cleaned out. Use a laser vacuum if you have one. If not, be prepared to ruin the vacuum cleaner. Toner particles will cause damage to the motor IF it's a model that has airflow thru the motor for cooling, a common practice. Standard filter bags will let toner pass thru them. You need a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter that is before the motor or impeller.

While the drum unit is out, clean everything metal that you see. Most of the metal pieces you see are High Voltage and Ground contact points. Electrical cleanliness is critical inside this color laser. An old, clean tee-shirt works great for this.... of course, one that you don't want to wear anymore. NOTE!! Remove the Power cord from the printer while working inside it.

Very important..... Are you using genuine Dell toner? If not, this is probably only the beginning of more problems. The company that makes these printers for Dell has a trade secret on the toner formulation. Compared with 3rd party toners, it is not the same and will eventually ruin the inner workings of the printer.

I am having an issue with our 5100cn that the yellow toner cartridge was leaking and I realized it after it started printing yellow all over my print jobs. I remove and replaced the toner, removed the transfer and air blowed it completely out (at least I thought so), cleaned inside the machine to the best of my ability. It printed fine for a few pages and then whammo, more yellow over my printing. I repeated the above steps thinking I might've taken care of this time. Printed ok for a little and then yep, yellow again. Any suggestions as to what I should look at next? The yellow toner is all over the transfer rollers again and I thought maybe there was excessive amount of toner still floating inside the printer. I removed the covers and it doesn't appear to be the case. I'm at a loss and don't know of any Dell technicians in the York, PA area.
Please advise asap because this is our main printer.

Sounds like a leaky yellow developer. At that point repair cost might be a toss up versus replacement (rough estimate 300+). for that cost you could by a lower volume printer, but if you need high production it might be workth looking at a repair.

That happened to me on the Dell 5100cn. Our network analyst had been doing something on the server. He came up while I was trying to figure it out. Long story short. He reloaded the drivers and it was good again.
