Can't connect to the Internet after reformat

I had to reformat a Dell Latitude D830 with XP Pro SP2 due to a trojan.  After XP was reinstalled, I inserted the cds which contain the drivers and such for my system.  I installed the drivers and utilities, but for some reason when I plug my ethernet cable into the laptop, it says there is "Little or No Connectivity".  I plugged the same ethernet cord into the desktop I am currently using, and it works just fine.  The connection comes straight from the wall to the computer with no router or modem involved.  Can someone please help?  Thanks in advance!

tarcenea,

The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first, then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.

:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.

Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software
Chipset or SMBus driver
Processor Driver (if applicable)
Video
Audio (sound)
Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
Modem
Network Card

QuickSet(Laptop only)

Thanks for your help, but it says "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing your IP address".  I also do not have the power option to enter Stand By.

zorba199,

Yes, the drivers disk has all the drivers that you need. You need to install the Notebook/Desktop Utilities first, then the chipset dfrivers and everything you install after that will then install. If you just install the Notebook/Desktop Utilities and the chipset drivers, you should be able to connect the ethernet cabel to the router and connect for the other drivers.

When you're finished, then only update the drivers if you have a problem with them. Remember the theory...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

to Rick:

the drivers that are on the CD, can I assume that they are the drivers that I'm going to need or do I have to check each one for an updated version?

For instance for my Inspriron E1405 , XP there is an optional  driver under system utilities(notebook system software). Is that a driver I need to download and is putting it on a flashdrive a good idea?
