M4400 - Windows 7 - Broadcom Fingerprint Swipe Sensor
I'm trying to install the least amount of "Dell ControlPoint" as possible due to the reduntancies it creates with wireless adapter management and the size of the software in general. It appears that you have to install portions of it to get certain devices to work. In my instance it is the Broadcom USH Swipe Sensor. First question is 'Do I have to install ControlPoint Security Drivers and ControlPoint Security Management Application to get the Swipe Sensor to work?". Second question is "Do I need to make changes in the Bios in reference to the Broadcom TPM Module to allow ControlPoint to enroll fingerprints?". Is the "Embassy" software and the "Wave" software both have to be installed to get it to work? It just seems like an awfully lot of software just to get a fingerprint reader to work.
Thank very much ahead of time for any help and any advice on any device/software in regards to M4400 and Windows 7.

I noticed your questions while working on a few other things here.... I happen to know the answers:
Q1) Do I have to install ControlPoint Security Drivers and ControlPoint Security Management Application to get the Swipe Sensor to work?
A1) Yes, you need to install both; they include everythign you need for to use the fingerprint sensor. There is no other option today for the M4400 (or any of the current Lattitude or Precision notebooks).
Q2) Do I need to make changes in the Bios in reference to the Broadcom TPM Module to allow ControlPoint to enroll fingerprints?
A2) NO, you do not need to enable the TPM to enroll fingerprints. However, if you DO enable it while fingerprints are enrolled, leave it enabled. Once it is enabled, the credentials are re-encrypted and protected by the TPM; disabling it when there are enrolled users / fingerprints will cause problems.
Q3) Is the "Embassy" software and the "Wave" software both have to be installed to get it to work? It just seems like an awfully lot of software just to get a fingerprint reader to work.
Q3) Yes, the Dell ControlPoint Security Device Driver Pack and Dell ControlPoint Security Manager application package are required. (The Security Manager application installs the Wave Embassy software, as well as several other required components.)

Thanks for the information. I never did get it to work, but I kept trying to enable and activate the TPM module and every time I tried it would get stuck right after I picked the finger to use for swiping. It would say "Searching for fingerprint sensor" or something to that effect. I'll try it without "TPM enabled and activated".
