Powervault 110T LTO2 External - Error code 6

I recently bought a used Powervault 110T LTO2 external tape drive and was testing it out using just MS Backup on Win2k3 server.  Wanted to make sure everything is working fine before I go out and buy some software.  Anyways, I tried to run a full backup (2nd time) and this time I keep getting a error code on the drive .. number 6 and a blinking amber light.  Looking up the error code I found that it could either be the media (which are brand new) or the drive.  I tried multiple tapes with same results.  Following the instructions I entered the drive in to a maintenance mode and tried to run the diagnostics.  The drive did not even go through 1 of 10 passes.

Is there anything else I can try or is pretty much a door stop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The immediate step that you could attempt to resolve issues as such is to ensure that the firmware on the tape drive is latest, if it is still emitting the same error code after the update, it might be a faulty drive requiring replacement.

Here's the link for the firmware update package :

Is the tape drive currently still under warranty? Perhaps you could PM your email and service tag for further discussions on this.

Thank you.
