Dell AIO 946 PROBLEMS....RIGHT AND LEFT CARTRIDGE MISSING?????

I bought an Inspiron 1501 a couple of year ago along with an AIO 946 printer/scanner/copier.   My printer worked great until I was sent an XPS M1530 as a replacement.  After the switch I have had no luck with my comp.  I have spent OVER 4 hours on the phone doing nothing but getting switched around to 13 different people...13 people I say...all of which said they were sending me to someone who could help.  Needless to say NO ONE helped me and I'm stuck with a printer that won't work with what DELL sent me.  My printer has MAYBE printed 100 papers.  Someone said something about having to download different drivers b/c of different operating systems.  Ever since the first time I tried to print with this M1530 my printer mysteriously says right and left print cartridge missing....They ARE installed correctley and the ARE brand new cartridges.  I'm convinced that this M1530 defected my printer b/c it was still in EXCELLENT cond and I hardly used it....ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED....I'm so fed up with DELL because I've spent thousands of dollars in the past and they are doing NOTHING to help this customer AT ALL!!!!!

Smitrock5,

If you unplug the printer from the wall and remove the power brick for 60 seconds, this will reset any error messages the printer has. I would then plug everything back in.

Power on the printer.

Open the printer(with the power on) and take out the Dell Series 5 black cartridge and then reseat it. I would then take out the color Dell Series 5 ink cartridge and reseat it. Now close the printer and it will print an alignment page.

Any error messages?

black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

photo cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges .

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

It's possible to get a Dell Series 5 ink cartridge with a bad sensor. I would that these back to the place of purchase for a replacement or a refund.

I've done the steps above and the issue is not resolved.  Is there anything else I can attempt to correct the problem.  The left cartridge is a black series 8 and the right cartridge is a color series 5.  My print message says LEFT CARTRIDGE MISSING.  (This cartridge is a new cartridge, only printed 10 to 15 pages since I installed it about a month ago)

dcgodfrey,

Both cartridges should be Dell Series 5 ink cartridges.

Using Series 8 & Series 5 has not been an issue in the past.  Has something changed?

dcgodfrey,

To the best of my knowledge, both cartridges should be Dell Series 5.
