Replacing Power Supply in Inspiron 530

Thank you Bev.  I do have the 530 Mini Tower, not the Slimline model.  Are there any issues that I need to consider for this installation, or is it quite straightforward?  .Have you done this installation?  Also, do you know if there is a 500 watt power supply for the 530?  That would give me a little headroom to work with.

There should be no issues with replacing the power supply.

I have a 530 Mini Tower with a Core 2 Duo and a GeForce 8600GT video card, but have not upgraded the 300w power supply, as I cannot install a Quad Core processor in the system, wrong motherboard  [:'(].   But, it has been a sweet running system with very few problems

If you wish you use a larger power supply, most generic standard ATX power supply units can be installed, with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with or without the on/off switch.

You should be able to buy a compatible power supply from either a local or online computer store.

Note: You require a power supply with four SATA power connectors.

Thanks for your input it is valuable.  I am not a gamer and will only be using the HD4650 with two monitors (exiting Dell 19" & new NEC  MultiSync P221W) for photo editing (Photoshop CS4).  Do you still believe that I am OK using the HD4650 with the exiting Dell 300 watt power supply?

You will be fine.   As you can see HERE, it doesn't need much more than 15 watts.

I have an Antec 500 watt power supply in my 530 and it works fine.  Like Bev said, you can replace it with any standard ATX 12V unit.  Also, the HD 4650 does not require 400 watts and it will work fine on your 300 watt power supply.  You would probably not be looking at any more than 150 watts being needed for your entire system when doing something like gaming.  If you were not gaming and just surfing the internet or something else, it would be using less than 100 watts total for everything.  Others have run the better HD 4670 on the 300W power supply.   Understand that manufacturers overstate the recommended wattage by a considerable amount.  If you feel you have to upgrade, it's important to upgrade to a good name brand unit.  A very popular one is HERE.
