dell xps m1210 video display blur and wavy line, need help?
I have dell xps m1210 with nvida gefore 7400, up unitl 3 weeks ago my lcd screen start to act out of sync, verything become blury and display small wavy line across the screen, specially with picture background or worst when you try to watch a movie, it is like you watching a negative film with some color.
did anybody successfully call dell technical support and have them replace the motherboard when you computer is out of warranty. by reading this forum, I understand that dell aware of this problem and have extend warranty for xps m1210 for another 12 months. my 12 months of extension haved passed in 2009. the tech said if I send in my computer last december, they will consider to replace it for me, but now is Febraury they could not do anything for me, I have to paid for the service to have it fix, the cost fo fixing this computer is like buying a new computer. I have spend a lot money for this top of line dell computer and have it break down after 2yrs 3m of light usage because of the design flaut and dell have knowlegde of the flaut and not tell the owner of xps m1210 to send the computer in to have it fixed,
I need help to fight this, my dad have a dell laptop his bougth 5yr ago and till kicking, need to trust dell to do the right thing ..

Hi, I have a similar problem withmy laptop display. Hooked up to an external monitor, every time it looks perfect.
Text seems fine, even perfect. Any video or image is poor, even if it's just a color background.
Win XP SP3. Re install of Nvidea drivers, updated MB Award flash, don't have original install disks/set up.
Adjusted to native 1280 x 800. Tried Nvidia display tools, etc.
New internal display cable--no change. New laptop LCD screen--no change.
Is there a Dell specific bios/driver set I need?
I see the video image distortion (sporadic small horizontal lines, basically noise) even on boot up. Is there a bios or chipset / motherboard fix for this. I started seeing this after I hooked up to an external monitor for the kids to watch a movie, maybe screwed up the settings in the bios.
Any help out there?

I also have a Dell XPS m1210 which has a fried graphics card.
It started out as fuzzy graphics but wasn't too bad when plugged into the external Monitor, then a couple of weeks ago it just stopped displaying anything and when I hear the windows bootup sound I assume it's ready to accept my password. I'd luckily set it up on our network with drive sharing enabled and so at least can get at my data - but have lost a lot of mobility as all of my applications on my desktop are on the notebook so that I can work and travel.
Dell in the US appear to have recognised that this is a shortcoming of the motherboard-graphics card design and are usually arranging to replace the motherboards on these failed units.
I am also requesting that Dell replace the mobo. and don't think that I should need to purchase extended service to achieve this.

I end up buying the extended warranty service 2yrs for $209 with battery replacement. tired of keep talking with dell service tech. I just mailed my laptop to depot with battery replacement yesterday.
