Laptop Studio 1558: Did dell fix the loud fan / hard drive noise yet?

I was about to purchase a Laptop Studio 1558 (i3, i5, i7) until I read all the problems people are having with this laptop. The fan is very loud on this laptop and the 7200 hard drive apparently has issues too. Dell kept telling people it was a BIOs issue, but I believe it's a hardware issue(s).

If anyone has purchased a new Studio 1558 in the recent past, can you let me know if you are having problems with it? Is it loud?

(I'm guessing Dell has been able to keep the fan from coming on all the time, but I'm also guessing when the fan does come on under load it's very loud.)

THANK YOU!

Its an i5 with ATI... will be used by one of our staff.  I'll keep an eye out for issues.  2 days of setup and testing showed no issue so far.

Good luck. I hope it works out for you... for others who also spent $1,000s, sadly it did not.

Did you get the optional graphics card? Did you get i3, i5 or i7? Thanks.

I got a Studio 1558 a little over a month ago and haven't had any problems with it. I've only heard the fan once and it was because I had the laptop sitting on my bed. I have an i5 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.

I got mine last month. Noisy fan issue. So every 2 minutes the fan turns itself on and goes for 30 seconds. Enough to irritate a person.

HI,

I have just got a Dell 1558 with Intel core i5 520M, 4G RAM, ATI 5470, BIOS A06  for 3 days. Until now, I have not met the issues that many people mentioned. But the fan can make a little bit noise when CPU in full load state 100%. I don't know it is the same situation with the other laptop brands since it is my first lap.

Practical advice: DONT BUY Dell buy Asus!!!!(wayyyyy more solid)

I buyed a Dell Studio 1558 last summer.....it worked fine for a few months.....didnt hear the noisy fan that everyone complains about.....the HDD make some strange noises but very rare(buy the 5400 rpm not the 7200 rpm)....but for a few days now my  video card have some very low performance on game......my fps droped from 80 to 8-20 max...... i dont know whats happning.....the only solution i found is to reinstall windows but only works for a while and the sime problem hits without a warning.

P.S: I have an ASUS for 3 years now didnt make me any tehnical problems which couldnt be solve immediatlly. Im very disapointed with Dell.

My laptop config:

Cpu: i5 M430, 2.27 GHz

Ram: 4 Gb/1066

Gpu: ATI HD 5470, 1 GB

OS: Win 7.64

Oh yeah other brands never have problems....

Lets see: you tried pretty much everything BUT the drivers in Dell support?  If correct driver how are you "letting" windows do the install.

I have installed all the drivers from dell support but the video driver(from dell support) didnt worked properly because i had installed Nvidia Phisicx.......after i uninstalled Phisicx everything is ok........and yes Windows 7 can auto install drivers for some devices view Device Manager.
