OS (C:) drive Full
Hi!
First of all not a computer boff. Had Inspiron 1370 laptop a few months. Noticed today that OS (C:) drive (58.5GB) is full and D frive of 225GB is not being used. To my knowlege I have not adjusted memory settings but it appears that everything is in the OS drive and I'm sure that is not right. Any thoughts folks?

Well, Windows is installed on the C:\ drive. If you save your personal files to My Documents folder, those would end up in the C:\ drive as well.
What you can do is download the free EASEUS partition tool and re-size the C:\ drive.

Thanks for your reply. Ive never had to play around with memory on previous computers. Excuse my ignorance but why would the memory capacity be set up so small( 59GB for the c: when, if it is assumed that if you use windows operating sysytem to store your files, it is bound to fill it up?

FYI, one doesn't refer to hard drive space as memory; memory = RAM

Dell has posted this article about the new drive partitioning. You can also use the drive with the current partitioning if you install/reinstall all programs and files (everything) on the D partition then change the Libraries to point to those folders on the d drive and make them the default save locations.

try EASEUS but back up your data
you should have done that beforehand anyway

Like Brend,n after that link I am unable to delete D: volume when I right click on the D: section.. A ideas how to get around this problem. I dont fancy reinstalling everything unless that is the only solutiion

Yep, that is what I linked above and would be the easier option.
I actually am doing the reverse. I just bought a used D620 on eBay with 60GB hard drive. I used the EASUS partition tool to downsize C:\ to about 20GB and create a D:\ partition of 20GB for my data. The remaining 20GB will be for Ubuntu Linux.
