2 issues
Hello,
I am having two problems that may be related. I had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 1a (because of a corrupted file in JASC Photo) that came with my Dell Dimension 2400 using the repair option. After repairing and reinstalling drivers, I see an icon in the lower right hand corner that states this version of Windows Xp is no longer secure.
I am also trying to re-install my copy of Microsoft Office Standard 2007 April 2007 Applications Student Media as it stopped working (it did work fine including word and Microsoft outlook-neither works now) due to either the corrupted file or the repair. I receive a message stating I need to have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed first. (I had Service Pack 1a, 2 and 3 installed on the system but apparently 2 and 3 can't be found) The file downloads and extracts and a window for Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard opens. It runs for about 5 minutes and then disappears and then I get a message that access is denied. I have tried 3 separate times to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks Mary but when i try to download Sp 2 the file downloads and extracts and a window for Windows XP Service Pack 2 Setup Wizard opens. It runs for about 5 minutes and then disappears and then I get a message that access is denied. I have tried 3 separate times to no avail. What can you suggest?

The security message is there because windows xp needs to be updated to SP3. You should have had Sp 2 and 3 on disks for easy reinstalls. Don't even attempt anything with office 2007 until you update. Go to Windows Update site asap and get the service packs you need as well as any other security updates.

Did you make sure you were logged in as Administrator or with such privilages?

A few ideas from the preparation I did for SP3:
If you've already installed anything like firewall/antivirus/antispyware software, etc. that could what's causing the "access denied" problem. Try disabling those and see if it works. More info here on troubleshooting that error:

If you end up deciding it's easier to just start over: you can download both SP2 and SP3 as full packages, save them on a flash drive or CD, and install them directly, before installing anything else. Technically you should only need SP3 - it includes SP2 as long as you already have SP1a. But some people have better luck doing SP2 first, then SP3. Up to you.

Thanks Alexandra,
I was able to disable the antispyware but not the Windows firewall:I get an error message that states"Due to an unidentified problem,Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings." I did save SP2 to an external drive and downloaded to the hard drive, but about half way through the installation, I get an error message: Access is denied" and all of the downloaded files get removed and my computer shuts off.

MS and an MS-MVP blogs have fixes (like THIS and THIS ) but my amateur opinion is that your registry permissions are just plain messed up. Someone else may have better ideas, but I'm thinking you'll be better off making a clean start.
Reformat and reinstall XP SP1a
Install your drivers - and ONLY your drivers. Chipset, network, audio, video. Don't install ANY applications yet.
Then try installing SP2 and SP3 from the files you've downloaded.
Then turn on the firewall and get all your Windows Updates.
Only after that should you try installing anything else.
