Inspiron 700m SD card reader doesn't work on SDHC cards

To all users and Dell customer service agents --

I have had a problem with the card reader on my Inspiron 700m.  It did not see cards larger than 512mb.  I looked for the latest updates on Dell.com.  The only solution I found was an update released in 2006, which updated the driver to read higher capacity cards, but not SDHC cards.

There is a work-around which I found on the net (outlined below), but this causes a problem with the hibernate/sleep mode in which the computer won't "wake up."

I'm wondering...

]IS THERE A RELIABLE DELL DRIVER OUT THERE?  OR ONE FORTHCOMING??

We Dell fans want to know...

-------------------------------------

WORK AROUND (NON-DELL SOLUTION) WHICH FIXES SDHC ISSUES, BUT CAUSES OTHER ANNOYANCES OUTLINED ABOVE:

Following driver works for my Inspiron 700m to read 8GB SD Card

1. Run the sp43509.exe and it will expand the install files into the directory you specify.

2. Update manually from device manager. Choose "install from a specific location", " I will choose what driver to install" and press "Have disk". Browse to where you extracted the files(Ex. C:\DELL\drivers\SP43509\Windows\tiinst\XP32) and choose tifm21. Then choose, "Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller".

Texas Instruments Media Card Reader Driver Version: 2.0.0.9 (1 Apr 2009)

Operating System(s): Microsoft Windows Vista Business (32-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista Business (64-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise (32-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise (64-bit), Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit), Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition

File name: sp43509.exe (6.4 MB)

DELL'S LAME 2006 UPDATE, WHICH BASICALLY DOESN'T DO MUCH FOR USE IN 2010, WHERE SD CARDS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, AS THEY HAVE BEEN SUPERSEDED BY SDHC
