Inspiron 9100 CPU Processor Upgrade

Inspiron 9100 is a bit old now, I;m wondering if anyone changed
there CPU. I have a Northwood 3.0C 512 and was wondering the max CPU it woud
support. It has an 800 MHz FSB. Will a desktop processor work? P4 Extreme? I
have BIOS revision AO6 and a Socket N  processor in the system. Is this the same as a Socket 478? I am
running windows 7 and woud like to get a little more juice out of it. I
have a 256 video card and 2 GB of Ram already. Thank you

My first thread got deleted for violating the rules. I apologize.

I believe I am having trouble with the left fan. My HMonitor states 0 RPM. Would that degrade the performance? I mean this thing is really slow, My CPU temp is 49C and core is 41C. The fan on the right is 4500 RPMs. The center fan is running but I don't know what speed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I bought this used about a week ago thinking it would be okay for backing up my VHS. It runs a movie good for a few seconds until the fan kicks on. I have disassembled it down to the chassis, cleaned everything and applied new thermal paste to the cpu. Still have same problem.

Thank you
