v306 Communication System stopped
I haven't been able to communicate with my v305 printer.
At one point it stopped appearing in the Start > Settings > Printers
Then after installing the latest driver, I came to this dialog:
-----
Software Already Installed.
What do you like to do?
( ) Install A Printer
(.) Update Repair Softward
( ) Install Additional Software
-----
I chose to update repair software then it started "Installing Software" and then this dialog came up:
-----
Congratulations
Your printer is now connected!
[Print test page]
----
I connected the printer with the USB cable and clicked to print the test page. Nothing happened.
*In the meantime this dialog had also appeared:*
-----
Microsoft Windows
Printer Communication System stopped
working and was closed
A problem caused the application to stop
working correctly. Windows will notify you if
a solution is available
-----
Is this problem known to v305 users, or should I ask the question in a Vista forum?

emfrilingos,
Make and model of your computer and operating system is helpful. 32-bit or 64-bit?
The language installed on the computer is?
You're trying to connect the V305 with the USB Cable, correct?

emfrilingos,
Disconnect the printer.
Uninstall the printer.
Restart your computer.
Make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and Download Latest Java
Download the Vista 32-bit drivers from Dell V305 & V305w All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)
Install the Vista 32-bit drivers. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
Also try this tweak.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Restart your computer.

Sorry for the delay in replying. .
It didn't work. after the installation I did not get the windows alert this time, but the printer again did not show up in the Start > Settings > Printers, as before.
Unchecking the boxes in power management did not help either.
Am I the only one with this kind of problem?

emfrilingos,
Try running Finding System Information and post everything back here except the product ID
Did your computer ever have a virus and/or maybe malware?

emfrilingos,
If you click start, control panel, system, you should see that you have Vista Home Basic 64-bit system, if I read this correctly.
The operating system disk will have this information. So we were using the wrong drivers.
Before proceeding, let's try inserting the operating system disk and stop it from running.
Start, all programs, accessories, rught click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type
sfc /scannow
hit enter and it will replace any Windows files that were corrupt or missing.
Restart your computer when it's finished. Hopefully you won't get a message that some of the files could not be replaced.
With the printer disconnected, run the patch to completely remove the printer, then restart when prompted.
Download the Vista 64-bit drivers amd install them. You should get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at ths time(powered on)

emfrilingos,
You are correct, my eyes are playing tricks on me, again.
Since the printer did not install, we can try inserting the operating system disk and stop it from running. Type
sfc /scannow (space between the c and /)
hit enter. This will replace any files that may be corrupt or missing.
What virus program are you using?

It has been my experience that every on e of these printers has this problem, at one time or another. I went thru two, v305s and then they sent me a v313. My friend
did the same thing - two - that wouldn't work, and he just pitched them and got an HP. o, out of four V305 s, none worked. I have sitting here now, that will not
connect wirelessly, and the reciever gets awfully hot - so I blame the wireless card. It goes in the trash right now. The V313 isn't much better. Next printer will be a Kodak, at least the ink is a heckuva lot cheaper.
