Fake Anti VIrus Pop-ups Linked to Porn Sites and No Internet Connection

Greetings,

Firstly, I apologize for not being able to supply a HiJackThis Log or Uninstall Log.  I cannot go online or utilize my Desktop icons or even my Dock icons.  When I click on my HijackThis icon or Dock icons they just flash and go away in split seconds.  Now I will procede to precisely tell you what has happened to my computer.

I have a Dell Inspiron XP 6000.  I was working this morning on my computer when it became sluggish.  I got a pop-up that said, "SECURITY WARNING", with a red circle with a white X inside.  It said, "application cannot be executed.  The file wuauclt.exe is infected.  Do you want to activate your AntiVirus Software now? yes or no."

If you say no it comes back within seconds.  If you say yes, a website comes up that is called ANTIVIR SPYWARE and prompts you to purchase.  If you do nothing, a few seconds later another pop-up comes up with a red border at the top.  It says, "ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE ALERT".  "Infiltration Alert: Your computer is being attacked by an Internet virus. It could be a password-stealing attack, a Trojan-dropper, or similar."
There is a DETAILS section in that pop-up.  "Attack from: 179.224.244.34, port 24421.  Attacked Port: 41665.  Threat: BFox.A.  Do you want block this attack?"

DETAILS changes every few minutes.  Here is another one:  "Attack from: 202.163.161.75, port 42972.  Attacked Port: 38825.  Threat: BFox A.  Do you want block this attack?"

Another alternate DETAILS:  "Attack from: 243.253.108.172, port 34696.  Attacked port: 19958.  Threat: Win32/Nuqel.E"

Another alternate DETAILS: "Attack from: 148.31.118.77, port 21072.  Attacked port: 40986. Threat: BankerFox.A.  Do you want block this attack?" They just continue on changing at random every few minutes.

The next pop-up window is larger with a bright red top border and shield with an exclamation point inside of it. It says, "Vulnerabilities Found-Your computer is infected by Spyware - 34 serious threats have been found while scanning your files and registry. It is strongly recommended that you disinfect you computer and activate realtime secure protection against future intrusions."  Then there is a blue line (highlighted) that says, "Why do you need realtime spyware protection ?"
"Upgrade to full version of antivirus software to clean your computer and prevent new security and privacy attacks.  You will be able to download daily updates and get online protection against Internet attacks."
Then you have choice to click on either "activate your antivirus software or stay unprotected".

If you do not do anything, which I did not, then an online porn site opens: http://www.porno.org. then it follows with another site: http://www.viagra.com and then http://porno.com follows next.  I have never seen these sites before.

I did run my free SUPERANTISPYWARE version that was on my desktop (I was able to double click it).  Although, it would not let me upgrade before running.  I also could load definitions.  It took almost four hours to scan and came up with 219 cookies and one Trojan.  I clicked for Quarantine and it processed it and listed them and said reboot.  It did reboot my computer but it seemed even worse with the constant pop-ups and porn sites.

Thank you so much for your time.

Alright. Reboot into Safe Mode With Networking, then

Please download Combofix and save to your desktop:
  • Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop
    Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the contents of the C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

squashead

Better

1. Rerun Hijackthis (scan only) and place checks beside the following entries

  • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/su/sbcydsl/*http://www.yahoo.com
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5643

Close all other open windows except Hijackthis and Select " Fix checked"

Close Hijackthis ->> Reboot your PC ->> Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hijackthis log

And in your reply tell me how your PC is doing at this point

I too have been taken over by the virus Ifon is experiencing (with all the same details he posted). My Malware Bytes, CCLeaner and Micro Trend PC-cillin didn't find  the problem.  I have downloaded ComboFix from a different computer onto a thrumb drive, have booted in safe mode and am trying to run ComboFix but am having difficulty disabling my virus protection software (Micro Trend PC-cillin) in order to run the ComboFix.  I can't even find instructions on Micro Trends webpage on how to temporarily disable it. Obviously, I a savvy computer person so I may just be missing something oobvious or maybe Im having trouble because the virus is interfering???  Thanks for any help you can give.

Computer seems to have a much slower response to commands. Even the typing  characters are slow.

While waiting for responses and after my many spy ware/virus detection software attempts to fix the virus, I kept looking on the internet for how to fix this problem.  Someone said to system restore to the day before this happened so I did and and now my computer is working great.  Go figure!

That may be due to all of the updates now running that you were not able to get. Repost in a day or two and let me know if the situation improves or not.

Computer seemed ok, normal speed for a couple of days.  Yesterday was very slow booting up and opening yahoo etc.  It took forever for pages to open and opening the desktop looked like it was going in slow motion.  Started up this morning and it took a long time to boot but now seems normal again.....for now.  I use SuperAntiVirusSpyWare to clean....I had fallen behind on updating and scanning when this Malware/Trojan invasion happened.  Should I continue with that free users version?  I would like to know what you suggest.

Glad to hear it

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.

  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced." deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Let's Remove Combofix

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /Uninstall

Here are some final notes:

Update your Anti Virus Software

Use and maintain a Firewall

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently for critical updates

Backup your Important Documents and Files on a regular basis
  • To a disc or a USB key, not your Hardrive

I have gotten hit again with the same problem yesterday.  I went back over all of our posts, Bamajim, and have gone into safe mode (Network). I cannot access the web to download anything. I have been keeping my Anti Virus Spyware updated and I ran it.  It found the Rogue Agent/Jen-Nullo(Dell). I also did a log for Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and Hyjack This.  I cannot send them to you until I can get to my inbox.

Thanks!
