Question about Dimension 4600
I have had a Dell DImension 4600 for about 5 years or so. I have had some problems with it lately, the worst of which was a virus that it caught, and it hasn't really run right since then, even though I got rid of the virus. I am tired of the slowness, and am thinking of getting something new. My brother suggested just getting more RAM for it, but I didn't want to go to the trouble of doing that if it really wasn't going to help my problem. I use the computer to surf the internet, email, store pics, and store a fair amount of music (most of the hard drive is used up with that), so I was thinking if I got a bigger system I would be better off than just upgrading the memory. Any suggestions?

An "almost full" hard drive will cause a major slowdown. Windows needs free space to operate well. Five years is a good life span. You shouldn't spend money upgrading an old computer. You deserve a new one with Win 7, big hard drive and more memory. Prices are so cheap compared to 5 years ago and you get so much more for your money. Go for it if you can afford it. If you can't afford $300-400 right now, buy an external drive so you can unload the music files and free up some room. Then you can use the drive with a new computer.
