Anyone ordered a new XPS15 or XPS17 Laptop & got it yet?

Hi,

First post on here.

After my current laptop died (nVidia chip on graphics card parted company with it's board) I needed a fairly high spec laptop relatively quickly & one I could buy now & pay for later.

It is nearly Christmas & cash is tight!

Stumbling accross Dell's website I eventually found the XPS17 Core i7 quad CPU, 6GB DDR3 ram & 3GB  nVidia GT445M graphics card.

Buy now pay later & even E-sign your agreement online.

After an online chat with sales support it was confirmed that custom built laptops are usually 8-10 working days lead time.

All boxes ticked for me there then. This seemed ideail.

However, now one week since ordering, the order is still being processed & the expected deliverery date is 29-11-2010. Double the lead time I was quoted.

Several more online chats, a few calls to customer care & an email & I am still no further on.

Nobody in the customer care department seem to know what is going on & despite being told on 3 occasions (2 before I made the purchase) that I would be called back. Nobody has called.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Right about now I just feel like cancelling my order.

Dell seem to be useless!

Wish I had just waited for MSI's GX660R to be available again in the UK. The should be in stock next week.

Thanks for taking the time to read my little rant. Any comments/thoughts will be much appreciated.:emotion-12:

I guess it just depends on various factors like what graphics card, how much ram etc and if they have certain things in stock. This is what I put it down to anyway  :emotion-1:

in my case everything was the default option except the $20 bluetooth option. I guess that's the complexity in the order... *sigh* - i could go pick something up in the store, but isn't this dell's bread and butter to create custom PCs really fast? i suspect the "build" time is less than a hour and 3 weeks to ship it by boat from malaysia.

It could well be that's where the problem lies. I'd give CS a call maybe? In the first page of this thread I posed a link that tells you the production process of a notebook. It is quite interesting even though it is a few years old. I reckon the process is more or less the same though. Fingers crossed you get yours before the EDD :emotion-1:

I love Dell and have worked with them for the past 20 some years.  However, I have to reply to your post saying I totally do not agree with you about purchasing thru an online rep.  On one of my purchases, I did the same as you: I purchased via the rep because I had some questions that I needed answered and it was just easier to go ahead and order.  Well, we had problems with that order and I contacted the sales rep who told me to wait for 2-3 weeks before we could get our missing item.  When that didn't happen, I tried to contact him again - via email and by telephone.  I never got an answer back.  I tried to contact his supervisor (info was on email from him) and I never heard back from the supervisor either.  Now, it's been months later and we still have not received the item.  This was not a major item, thank goodness (it was just a set of speakers).  Had it been anything more serious, it could have been disastrous.  I'm very disappointed in Dell and wonder if we'll purchase anything else from them (I buy for a business).  We'll see.

UPDATE!

Should have checked my order status before replying.

Really pleased for you!:emotion-2:

I called Dell yesterday as mine is still 'work in progress' and was told they are awaiting stock for one component and that they would call me on Monday with an update.

I was also told delivery usually takes around 3 days from when items are shipped.

Hopefully that means you will get yours Wed/Thurs next week.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

YAY Shouldnt be too long for you then Stacker. Mine was still in production last night. Just checked again now and just like Mat, it says it has been shipped :emotion-1: Walsh Western is the carrier. No tracking number comes up for me though for some strange reason. Also my EDD got changed on Weds to the 7th Dec from the 22nd Nov. Very strange, packing slip also doesnt list my address as the delivery. Will have to keep checking the page anyway for a tracking number.

Fingers crossed Stacker's gets shipped next week :emotion-1: Will post when mine arrives

mine shipped yesterday 11/19 and is anticipated to arrive on Tuesday 11/23 (originally intended for 11/22). If its shipped on Friday and i chose Next business Day, doesn't that mean Monday? looking forward to getting my laptop.

BTW I checked the order status midday Friday and it indicated shipped, the tracking number didn't show up until that evening. I suspect the EDD slipped due to 5-7 window and Thanksgiving, if you're in the US.

I'll post when mine arrives.

That's good news Dhario, another that's on it's way :emotion-1: I'm not in the US, I'm in the UK but if I was, I could see why the EDD was slipped due to Thanksgiving. Hmm the plot thickens! I guess I could call them and find out but TBH, I've really had enough with calling CS to last me a lifetime!

Just out of interest though, have any of you recieved an e-mail yet about the product being shipped? Just wondering as I have had no other e-mails apart from the acknowledgement one.

y - i couldn't figured out why mine was delayed and extra day when it shipped on a friday. not sure what the situation is on your end.

i did receive an email about the product being shipped. i received my shipped notification email around 10.30pm on the day it shipped. which was about 10.5 hrs after the order status page indicated the product had shipped. i did notice you had to check a box on the order status page to be notified when the product shipped, i decided to go ahead and click the link, although i would've expected this would be standard given the lead times...

best of luck

WW has updated the tracking. ETA of 24th Nov, Thursday :emotion-1: Tracking says it left manu falcility at 16.00 so it's on it's way hurrah!

Dal - I'm now thinking the reason they changed the EDD to the 7th Dec was because they knew they wouldnt be able to get it to me before or on 22nd Nov. Slipping it back to the 7th would be well within the time and should be, all being well!

Will keep you all posted
