Optiplex 380 RAM Upgrade
I have a Dell Optiplex 380 (Full Desktop version) with 2GB DDR3 Ram. I bought 2 x 4GB DDR3 Ram modules to upgrade. When I put the ram in, the machine just beeps. How can I resolve this? Is it an issue of the speed of the ram or the voltage required?
Help!

Dell Optiplex can hold up to 8.0 GB RAM, but only 4.0 GB RAM recognized with 32-bit Windows. The problem is with Bios. Flash bios with latest version, it will accept new modules. Hope this will help...

According to Crucial, 2GB per slot max, thus the 4GB will not work. Crucial shows this as requiring 1.5 volt memory. HERE is the Crucial Memory listing for the 380 "mini tower". We recommend Crucial for non-Dell memory as it is guaranteed to work in Dell's.

According to Dell's Optiplex site. This system supports 8GB (2 Dimms) of DDR3.
See here:
Under Tech Specs.

What modules did you use? I tried kingstox blue and all it did was beep. I have the current BIOS flashed.

You may use Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT2033659

Is that the only module? I see from that page it can use DDR3 PC3-10600, or DDR3 PC3-12800. And is it only limited to crucial?

Please see the following link:

In Bios, uncheck the OS option. Are the RAM in pair? Non-ECC? Test one module in one slot at a time to be sure RAM modules and slots are working.

RAM is in pair. Tested one module in one slot and is biping.
Will try to uncheck the OS option.
With 2 x 1GB is working well but not enough for 64 WIN 7 ... I think I will sell 4GB and buy 2GB. The manual spec is 4GB maximum, maybe there are two different models.

Good afternoon,
I'm having the same problem of incompatibility of memories for the Optiplex 380.
I'm using 32-bit processor ...
I would upgrade to 2GB combs on 92 machines.
which PN Kingston use?
PS: already used KVR13N9S8/2G KVR13N9S6/2G and unsuccessfully
I plan on using the following pn: KHX1600C9D3B1/4G
Surveys?
