Trouble Staying Connected To Network...Speed Number Fluctuates

Hi,

I just got a Inspiron N5110 and I noticed that only with this new computer the speed for the router fluctuates.  It only happens with this new computer.  I have Windows 7.  The router speed fluctuates from 54 to 48 to 24 to 54 Mbps.  The router is usually always at 54 Mbps.  The router is about 7 years old.

When I unplug the router and plug it back in, it works fine for a bit.  There is nothing wrong with the cable modem.  It works fine.  I use this computer for work so I have to have this running perfectly.  I must be missing a setting or something.

The router we have is a D-Link DI-524.   I also sometimes get a yellow triangle with a black exclamation point when the network is lost.

I don't know how to fix this.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,  Janine

Janine,

I would have first looked at your settings in your wireless router. I recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

The yellow exclamation marks is a puzzler. I would check to see if the wireless card is seated properly. Instructions can be found HERE.
