My Dell 2330dn Laser Printer will not work with OS X Lion

Yes, I have a 2330dn Laser Printer, I have recently upgraded my Mac to OS X Lion, and my 2330dn Laser Printer will no longer print.  It says in the print manager "the print file was not accepted" and puts the printer into Pause, everytime I try to print.  I am an IT professional and I've tried everything to make it work, I've seen in many support forums that several others that own this printer model are having the identical problem.  So my question is, after how much I paid for this printer, is when is Dell going to release a driver for this printer that is compatible with OS X Lion.  I've contacted Apple regarding this, they said "it's Dell's hardware, and Dell's responsibility to release a compatible driver.

Thanks

I'm having the same problem printing from a 3130cn.  I reinstalled the driver and got MS Office to print but neither browser (Chrome, Firefox) will print.  Really maddening!

I am having the same problem Brett.  I have been recommending this printer (2330dn) to others but I have stopped doing so for people with OSX operating systems.  Considering the expense of this printer you would think that Dell would have had more than enough time to develop a driver for OSX Lion.

I switched to a generic PCL printer driver and it solved my problem

Two weeks ago I purchased a new MacBookAir and an Airport Extreme so that I could go wireless between my iMac and MacBookAir. I am having printer problems with my 3130cn on all three pieces of equipment.

Lion will only set up the 3130cn as a generic printer on the MacBookAir with no functions at all except to print. I use draft black a lot to conserve on toner, and the generic printer defaults to quality color only. That means I don't print with the MacBookAir.

I have talked with both Apple and Dell, and the problem is that the 3130cn does not yet have the drivers for the new OS-X Lion which is on my MacBookAir. So that would be the answer to the question posed in this thread. Apple tells me that Dell will submit the new driver at some point, and it will come thru with updates to Lion on my MacBookAir.

Fortunately I had not upgraded my iMac to Lion and am still using Snow Leopard. Even there I have problems because at any given time the printer goes off line and will not print. It prints fine though if I route it thru the iMac rather than Airport Extreme.

Marcse, what generic PCL printer driver did you use and where did you get it?

Thank you

I appreciate you posting this so I know I am not the only one. While not an IT professional I consider myself a power user and have done some contract work with IT departments. I too am completely stuck on this issue. Please Dell work with Apple to get this resolved and soon. Suffice it to say that if I have to replace my printers to be compatible with Lion I will NOT be purchasing Dell printers. Thanks.

I have the 3130CN with Wireless adapter.  After much frustration I got the generic driver to work and installed as a network printer a couple months back.  I since updated my wireless network with Aruba gear and in doing so my IP address scheme and SSID changed so I have had to reinstall the printer.  all that said...I can't seem to get it to work.  using the same setup but with new IP address.

The printer goes into a "paused" state - at least that is what Lion reports.  The printer is just sitting there idle with no job pending or errors.  What the heck???  I am not using the Dell Driver as it crashes every time.  With the generic driver it works on USB connection fine but not IP.  I know it is connected as Lion can report back the toner levels etc, spools the job and the "paused"...no way to un pause it...

thoughts????

I'm in a similar predicament - I LOVE my 3130cn printer which I have had for just under 2 years.  As a dedicated Mac user since 1985, I took a leap to Dell b/c of the reviews of this printer and felt confident they would continue to support Mac users - I sure hope that is accurate!  I have a quite expensive and high functioning printer that will become useless in the coming months if I'm unable to use it with my Mac hardware.  Soon Apple is going to REQUIRE all users to have OS Lion in order to use iCloud (mobile me will be terminated) which is essential for mac users have proper integration among many devices, and software

Mac users HAVE TO upgrade to Lion to keep up with integration for all devices and file management.  I would love to hear anyone's solutions to this major failure - so far - from Dell!  It's shocking to me to think that as Apple continues to grow that now Dell is going to drop the ball, Dell already almost went bankrupt from not being visionary enough and sitting on its laurels, I hope they have learned the lesson the first time!

DELL, PLEASE DON'T STOP YOUR DEVELOPMENT OF DRIVERS NOW! You make great printers and why not expand market share via Mac users - it is only going to expand at this point!

I am having similar trouble with a Dell 2155cn.  Worked fine before the Mac OS X Lion upgrade...

Add the printer using the IP address option in the printer add page. It worked for me with a Dell 2330DN.
