inspiron N5110 beeps 5 times on start up

My Dell Inspiron N5110 beeps 5 times for 5 times in a row when I boot up my computer. I ran a system scan everything passed except it said to launch window memory test.

Did that and it also said it passed. Can anyone explain these beeps? I did a code search and have not been able to fing anything with 5 beeps, 5 times in a row.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

5 beeps usually mean cmos battery failure. Replace the coin cell battery

If by continuous beep you mean a long, non-stop beep, I'm not sure what that would be other than perhaps a stuck keyboard. Here's a link to beep codes and errors.

Unplug the system, remove the battery and locate the reserve/CMOS battery .  This requires removing the palmrest assembly:

www.dell.com/.../manuals

You'll need to replace the CR-2032 lithium button cell battery (these are available for as little as under $1 from Amazon, among others).

If it's a series of single beeps, remove the battery, unplug the system and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Remove the base cover and the memory modules and reinstall them.

Try powering up again - if you still get a single beep that repeats, the mainboard is bad.  If you need further assistance, we'll need to know the exact system model (i.e., Inspiron 5521, N5110, etc.).

I have a Inspiron 3521. Can you tell me how to remove the memory modules and to replace it back?

Remove the bottom panel cover (base cover).  The memory modules are under there.

Ok, I removed the  bottom panel  and the memory modules, put everything  back, hit the power button, still have the one beeps. Thanks for your help!

Hi

Rather than replace the CMOS battery, which is very difficult on my Inspiron 15z 5523 as you basically have to take the whole laptop apart, is there a way to permanently switch off the beeps?

I've tried a couple of suggested fixes, like changing the Default Beep in Control Panel Sounds to 'None', but these don't work.

Thanks

There is no way other than to replace the battery (and if replacing the battery doesn't solve the problem, it means it's the clock chip that's bad -- which will require a replacement mainboard).

As previously stated by others, this is usually cmos battery related.  However in my particular case, I discovered that even with the bottom cover in place, the battery was popping out of position, thereby breaking contact with the edge (positive) spring contact.  Placing a 4mm thick rubber tap washer over the battery and then replacing the bottom cover resolved the issue :)
