Studio1535 not reading HDD
my laptop won't read the HDD. It fell, not far yet when i turn it on the hard drive makes a load of screaching noises. i replaced it with a hard drive that had the same OS: Windows vista 32-bit. and the screaching went away but i cant hear any activity that suggests the drive is being red.
What should i do?

when you run your laptop, press F12 and go through diagnostics..if it tells you that hdd is disconnected or there is a hdd error..assuming the one is ok, then probably the hdd connector is faulty.dell part number K673D.

Was Vista installed in the system, or are you trying to transfer a copy from another system? That will not work.

i dont have a copy ov vista. i triied to install windows XP but ther disk became curropt in the drive as it failed constantly i then tried windows 98 but the OS on that disc was a single shot use. but the computer makes no attempt to read the HDD. this is the fourth drive and the only one that didnt make loud noises
