Dell Precision Workstation T3500.
Hey All, I have a Dell Precision Workstation T3500 that I would like to add a Sata 6 specification SSD 256 GB drive to.
This system does support SSD Sata II up to 256 GBs but I would like to try the Sata 6 specification drives.
Can anyone advise if they have any experience adding a Sata 6 card to the T3500.
The system does have an available PCIe x16 and a PCIe x4 slots.
Also would I take a performance hit if I used the PCIe x4 slot, or could I use the other PCIe x16 slot.
Some have mentioned the PCIe x16 slots are for video cards only.

I'd suggest you use a controller card. You'll need to see what's available. If the card requires an x4 slot, there will not be any performance problem.

The problem is that there are very limited PCIe x4 Sata 3 controller cards available, and the ones that are have very poor reviews. All the higher end PCIe Sata 3 cards, LSI, 3ware, etc, only offer PCIe x8 controller cards available, hince the question, would a PCIe x8 Sata 3 controller card work in the available PCIe x16 slot? Dell support advises it will not, but I have read where it will. When I contacted Dell support, the support person did not know what a SSD device was.

Was this sorted out.
I have the same issue, I want to Deploy an LSI 3Ware card to support 5 x SATA Raid 5 on a T3500, but I do not want a performance hit. al lthe cards I see are all for the 8x slots.
Would the 16x slot work?
