Firmware and Driver versions are out of date?

I have a couple of servers. I use Version 6.5.0 of the OpenManagment software on one of them and some older versions of the software on others.

Anyway The raid card on at least 2 is a "SAS 5/iR Adapter".  In the OM software its reporting a message like

"Firmware and Driver versions are out of date."

with the following info ...

Firmware Version 00.06.50.00.06.06.00.02
Minimum Required Firmware Version 00.10.51.00.06.12.05.00
Driver Version 1.34.03.00
Storport Driver Version 5.2.3790.3959
Minimum Required Storport Driver Version 5.2.3790.4173

I really dont know much about the OM software although it seems quit nice. Is it automatically connecting to Dell and telling me the truth, eg that the Raid card can be updated with a firmware fix. I have tried to search for this update, but find it really confusing sorting through all the Dell updates. I find the descriptions not clear to me what I should download and use to update the 5/iR firmware, (if I should.)

Secondly I see that some of my servers have an older version of this Open manage sofware, can I just download it and it will update / remove older versions of the OM software so I can have the latest.

Finally I see some people talk about automatically searching for updates on their servers. eg Some software I think, that automatically tells you what to update. Again I find looking at the Dell software daunting, I have downloaded several components that I think should be right but some say Not right others sadly take me to broken links, that Dell has not updated or fixed. (I have a  coupld of poweredge 860's and a 515. ) Anyway is there any automatic software?

Thanks.

Here is a couple links for SAS 5/ir updates.

Firmware:  www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Driver:  www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

The Storport driver is provided thru Microsoft.  We can provide further information if needed for updating.

There are a couple options for updating multiple servers at a time.  We have a Repository Manager where you can build a custom repository of updates for specific models you have in your environment.

Or you can use a SBUU System Build Update Utility disk to update.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Col288,

What is the OS you are using on the server?

The disk you are referring to is the SUU (Server Update Utility) - www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Download the 3 ISO and then use this command to merge them into a single ISO - copy /b om*  om651_suu_a00.iso

. Then run that from the OS.

With OMSA it is accurate when it is out of date. So you can trust it when it tells you.

I have tried to download the iso 's but they dont seem to work for me. When I downlaod it takes me to

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

The links are responding normally on this end.  Are you getting to a page that asks to choose a download manager or direct thru browser.  If so please choose brower.  Have you tried clearing your brower cache?

I get the download manager but then when I go to what ever the next page is, which I presume is the download I get the error. I have tried this on my home network and it seems to work. But at work on two completely separate computers and two completely separate firewalls, thinking maybe its being blocked i get the same response. Im going to have to keep trying at work. Its just that some things on the dell site download but it seems, typically the thing I really want is always the thing I have problems with.

Strangely in the office when I use firefox it then asks me for a password and username to get into the ftp site?

Well I thought I would get back to the group with somewhat of an answer. After some work and getting the Dell repository manager to work, and understanding how it works, which I really dont yet. I did update several files. Thanks for that. I learns some valuable things about dell update software (first was the existence of it :) ) that I never knew about.

However the issue that first brought me to this group was the error being listed in the Dell Server Administrator eg.

"Firmware and Driver versions are out of date."

with the following info ...

Firmware Version 00.06.50.00.06.06.00.02

Minimum Required Firmware Version 00.10.51.00.06.12.05.00

Driver Version 1.34.03.00

Storport Driver Version 5.2.3790.3959

Minimum Required Storport Driver Version 5.2.3790.4173

It turns out that the dell software does not fix this. That this is actually a downlaod from the ms site. Its a hot fix listed in

support.microsoft.com/.../943545

and

support.microsoft.com/.../KBHotfix.aspx

Once I installed this the error in the Dell Administrator in the SAS area went away. I pass this on for those who may be having the same problem.
