replacement power supply for E510
I have a Dell E510 from 2006. Its power supply (L305N-00) has given up the ghost. I know I should be able to use pretty much any PS that is more than 305W, but I haven't found any that have the notches in them that the original included to hold the PS to the case. Does anyone know how I can find an adapter kit to keep the replacement PS in place in my Dell E510? Thanks!

Hi Katri,
As far as I know, there are four screws that secure the PSU to the case. That should hold it. There is a release button that needs to be pushed down to release the PSU but that stays in the case.
This CoolerMaster was recommended by a forum member who successfully replaced an E510 PSU.

I just installed a 600 watt unit in my e510 but I still have the amber blinking light. Any recommendations, please?

Did you connect the 24 pin power connector and the 4 pin Molex power connector? I've seen several posts of problems that were caused because the 4 Pin Molex power connector on the motherboard was missed.
Not all the amber blinking power light problems posted on this forum were power supply, however 99% were the power supply.

Thanks Fireberd for your quick answer; yes I connected both of them to the motherboard. If I pushed them down hard enough, I am not sure but I will try again tomorrow. I can say the green light on the motherboard is on, does it mean both connectors are in? Sorry about my silliness but I an "very" much a novice working inside a computer; fyi I jumped the black and green wires coming out from the original Dell PSU [as some blogger recommended to test the unit] and the fan started running; does it mean the PSU is OK?

Jumpering the black/green and the power supply starts up does not say it is 100%. Could be one or more voltages are missing. However, since jumpering the wires does startup the power supply says the problem is probably either in the motherboard, the power switch or the cable connecting the power switch to the motherboard.
Since you are having problems with the new power supply connected, that also points to something else.

I replaced the stock OEM 305 W PSU in my E510 with a Corsair CX430M modular power supply when I needed more juice to power a new nVidia video card that I was installing. The keyword here is "modular" which made connecting my components to the PSU very easy. Because the new PSU is modular I only needed to connect the wires / cables for the components that were required so there were a few cables that I didn't need.
You don't need an adapter of any kind. The PSU is held in place by four screws at the back of the tower. And, as osprey4 indicated, there is a release button locking mechanism inside the tower that you must press to remove the original PSU and that you must ensure locks the new PSU in place when you install it. There's not much else to it other than neatly bundling your cables with cable ties to reduce clutter inside the tower and keep everything nice, neat, and clean.
