TV as 2nd Monitor - but no sound through TV

Hello,

I am not a computer expert so this may sound like a dumb problem, but any help would be great :emotion-1:

I have an XPS730x with a 24" Flat Screen Monitor.

My system is connected to external speakers.

I have two DVI ports on the tower which are active, so I used a DVI-HDMI cable from the second port to connect to my HDTV as a second monitor.

(I mainly just want to watch movies and tv shows I stream from the web on the TV instead of the monitor as better clarity etc)

Only thing - when I move media player (and a movie) onto the TV screen, the picture quality is massively better but the sound is only coming from the external speakers not the TV speakers

Question then is -  is there any way I can get the sound to come from the TV instead of the PC speakers when I am displaying/playing a media file on the TV screen?

Is it something to do with the fact I am using external speakers?

Would I just unplug the external speakers?

Would I make the HDTV the main monitor?

In more detail - I am not sure how to stop the sound being output to the external speakers and instead output through the DVI-HDMI cable (i thought HDMI carried the sound without needing an extra audio cable?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Tristan

Also - this is not a huge problem, as the PC speakers have a sub woofer and can get good sound, just thought sound would come out of the TV using HDMI cable so a little confused on what to do.

Your starting from the DVI port on the video card. DVI does not transmit audio. All your doing is sending a video signal from the video card DVI port into the DVI to HDMI cable.

To get sound from the PC, you must connect the PC sound out jack directly to the TV sound in jack.
