Hi huey110302 ,

Welcome to the Community.

Two beeps on system start up in Inspiron 1546 means “No RAM detected”. You can try reseating the memory of your computer. If it does not work then most likely the port in which you insert the memory has gone bad. Please try using a good known memory one by one on both the ports to isolate the issue and let me know the findings.

Glad to help!

Thank you.

Hi Chinmay_Sharma!

Thanks for the reply, I Tried using new memory inserted one at a time on both ports but still then problem. Do you think it is the port of the memory? Do I need to replace my mother board if the port is damage?

Hi huey110302 ,

Thank you for your response.

As you have tried the steps above, and still face the same issues. It indicates that memory slot is faulty and system board needs replacement.  I request you to please private message me the service tag or the express service code of your computer so that I can check out the available service options for your computer.

Glad to assist you.

Thank you.

Hi, I have the exact same problem on Inspiron 1546, but the 2 beeps occur approx 15 secs after power up. I don't think this has anything to do with the RAM.

If you remove the RAM completely, and power up, you get the 2 beep "beep codes" repeated every few seconds until you power off.

The 2 beeps we are both hearing are not "beep codes" but something else.

BTW, the memory modules 2 x 2GB work fine in other laptops.

This fault occurred out of the blue, switched off one night, and wouldn't switch on following morning.

Can anyone suggest what this fault may be? It does appear to be affecting lots of Dells laptops.

If this requires a new motherboard to fix, can you suggest where to source from?

Thanks Must!

Hi Mustava,

2 beeps in Inspiron 1546 at start up means 'No Ram detected'. You can try reseating the memory module of your computer; swap and try one module at a time in each slot. See if it works. If the memory modules are seated properly, swapped and checked, and do work with another computer; it means it is an issue with the memory slot (motherboard).

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Awaiting your response.

Hi GeffShamm,

Please share the system model.

If it is the same Inspiron 1546, try reseating the memory module of your computer; swap and try one module at a time in each slot. Also make sure that the memory slots are clean. This will be helpful in isolating the issue with the memory of memory slot. If the issue still persists, it is an issue with motherboard of your computer and might need replacement. As the system is out of warranty, you can get in touch with any local technician or Dell sales to get a new motherboard for your computer. If you are in US, you can contact Dell spares at: http://dell.to/PlvA9D

In case you belong to a different region, you can change your country from the drop down menu.

Log in to website and click on ‘Contact Dell Sales’. You will get the contact information to get in touch with Dell Spare Parts and Accessories department

Please reply in case you have further questions.

According to Intel whom manufactured the BIOS chip of this laptop 2-beeps is a video related issue; 3 beeps would be a Memory error. Please see visit the below link to read more:

I have the same problem - I don't believe my two beeps are the regular two "No RAM" beeps. I realise this is an old post, but was Mustava's point ever answered ?
