If you reinstalled windows you must install drivers in the correct order. The Chipset and System Utilities(System Software) must be installed first or the other drivers do not install correctly. Here are the drivers: www.dell.com/.../vostro-1540

Hi ghaydaa,

I suggest that you check if the Wireless card is shown in the Device manager. If it is shown in the 'Device Manager' updating uninstall and reinstalling the wireless driver should fix the issue. If it is not detected, try reseating the Wireless card. You can refer to the following links for help:

Reseating wireless card:http://dell.to/tygnOd

Link to download wireless driver:http://dell.to/T4gh5V

Once you open the Wireless driver link, Select Network and select the wireless card available on your system to download the driver. Before installing the wireless driver, uninstall the existing wireless from Device manager.

I hope this helps

Please let us know in case of any queries. I will be glad to help.

Thanks and regards

Hello men,

I have the same problem with my Vostro 1540. I had installed Windows 7 instead Ubuntu and than installed the Drivers according order www.dell.com/.../vostro-1540 . All others devices worked correctly exept Wireless devices BCM43142A0 and network controller. Device Manager told me that for these two devices drivers are not installed. I install Dell DW1703 802.11 b/g/n,BT4.0 + HS">Dell DW1703 802.11 b/g/n,BT4.0 + HS and reboots the computer, but Wireless devices BCM43142A0 and network controller no finds the drivers.

Has anyone solved this problem?

Hello guys,

In this question is helpful the article DELL 1540 Wifi bluetooth 4.0 driver Windows 7 and windows 8 (Download)

if your laptop got a Broadcom BCM43142A0  and got an unknown network adapter on  your device manager with the bellow HWID, just download the driver bellow, and  then run the Network_BRCM_1704  exe

Download  links:

Download link for Windows 7 Wifi plus Bluetooth v4.0
Download link for Windows 8 Wifi plus Bluetooth v4.0

Question, why is it so damn difficult to find answers to these questions and why do Dell seem to put up a long list of drivers to a service tag request? Aftrer all they built it,. do they not know whats in it? Why does the update site not just tell us straight away which drivers we need following a reinstall? If they need to be installed in a particular order, why does it not say that?

Why is that no company specifically Dell can seem to figure out what we as users actually want and provide it? When we have to struggle so hard to find things that really should be easy, what do they think out likely decision will be next time we go to buy a new system?

How likely am I or anyone experiencing these issues to positively recommend Dell?

For me 0/10 would not recommend!!!
