Drivers for Insipron 15R with Switchable graphics. WORKING ONES!!!! WHEN ARE THEY OUT!?!

Hello

I have TWO of these machines and am disgusted that there is no working driver which recognizes and successfully controls the switchable graphics on them.  I have bought no less that a dozen Dell machines, however if this problem isn't quickly resolved I will not buy Dell again.

Hi Alun18,

Inspiron 15R which with AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card supports dynamic switchable graphic function.

Under the dynamic mode, the user does not directly control which graphics device is active. There under graphics device is determined by application profile settings and the default rule.
• Displays are always exposed to the OS through integrated graphics. This is the reason it will always show as Intel Graphics card is in use. It is designed that way.  All graphic intensive processes are done by the AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card and passed on to the application through the Intel HD Graphics.
• Aero desktop always runs on integrated graphics.
• 3D, OpenGL, and video-playback applications run on the fGPU/iGPU or dGPU depending on the application profile.
• If an application does not have a profile, the application runs on the default rendering GPU.
• The end-user can edit application profiles.

Please revert to this post for further assitance.

Hi Sujatha K

Thanks so much for completely ignoring my concern when providing an answer.  Did you get that from Wikipedia, or the AMD site?

I KNOW THE SPECS - I PROBABLY KNOW THEM BETTER THAN YOU DO.  I WANT A FUNCTIONING WINDOWS 8 DRIVER FOR THE THING PROVIDED BY DELL.

You sold the machine, now provide the support or lose a customer.

Also - I'm not going to revert to anything.  I'm not a Transformer.  I'll REFER to your post when you provide one that is relevant to the information I've requested.

Honestly - that's an embarrassing response from a person who is supposed to be a trained professional.

Hi  Floxigen,

Vostro 3450 comes with AMD Radeon HD HD7650 (WhistlerLP); AMD Radeon HD7450 (SeymourXT).

Please send me a private message of the system service tag to check the video card details and to assist you further.

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

I have an Inspiron15R N5110 with Intel HD Switchable graphics switching to a AMD Radeon 7400 graphics card.  Upon upgrade to Windows 8 the AMD Catalyst Control Center no longer recognizes the switchable graphics; instead treating the machine as having been set up with the Intel HD graphics option only.  This is a PC manufacturer issue; HP machines running a similar configuration experienced the same issue however it was revolved through HP reissuing an updated driver specific to their system BIOS.  Dell needs to do the same - the Windows 7 driver available on the Dell support site does NOT fix the issue.  There have been inquiries on the support board regarding this issue previously.  I am losing my patience with Dell on the issue at this point!!  I have bought no less than 8 Dell machines, however because of this problem I am looking at going to another machine by a different manufacturer for my next purchase.  I hope that this problem is quickly resolved so that I can remain a LOYAL Dell customer - as I have done in the past!

Hi Alun18,

I understand that the switchable graphics on your system is not working correctly and we are committed on getting these issues resolved. However, we need specific details about the issue. We have tested, it works fine in Win8 environment.

Please let me know if there is an Option "Switchable Graphics" in AMD Catalyst control Center. If the option is available, then the AMD driver is recognizing that the computer has switchable graphics. If this option is missing, then there might be a driver corruption.

Please reply with details about this issue, preferably with screenshots so that we can understand the issue better and work towards a resolution.

Clearly there is something wrong with your testing, as mine doesn't work fine and there are others with the same machine.

The Catalyst Control Center has a well known conflict with Windows 8 where it only detects the Intel HD graphics driver.  This may be the reason why you think the driver is working - it DOES work fine with Intel HD.

That said, the CCC does NOT provide an option to assign a program the AMD graphics card.  This is a manufacturer issue with BIOS and requires a Dell specific Windows 8 driver for switchable graphics.

Please provide, and provide a date when we can expect the driver's release.

Hi Alun18,

As per your post I understand that the Switchable graphics is not listed under ‘Catalyst Control Center’. I have escalated this issue to our engineering team and will post you once I get an update.

Meanwhile I request you to check if the AMD video card is listed under Display Adapters in Device manager and also check if there is a yellow bang.

Pleaser reply with the status.

It is listed under Display Adapters, however if you enable it the system crashes.  Thank you for actually looking into this.

Hi Alun18,

You have mentioned that  AMD Video card  is disabled. I would like to know if you right clicked on the AMD Video card in the device manager and disabled it. Also when you say the system crashed, kindly let me know if you are getting any error message, please give the detailed issue you are facing. I am requesting for all these details as we have not encountered this issue.

Hey Alun

Finally sorted out my problems with Catalyst, what i had to do was update my BIOS and graphics card from the Dell download section for my Inspiron 7520, i updated my bios from A05 to A07 and got the latest graphics drivers for my AMD Radeon HD 7730M to the driver released on 12/07/12, goto the dell drivers and downloads to check them out and sign in www.dell.com/.../HVZQHV1

if you need anymore advice just let me know

Hi Sujatha K,

You've mentioned "Vostro 3450 comes with AMD Radeon HD HD7650 (WhistlerLP); AMD Radeon HD7450 (SeymourXT)." but some people do have Vostro 3450 with AMD 6630m and for that there are no proper drivers available for win8.

If you install Win 8 you'll end up with only Intel graphics working, obviously if you install available driver for MD Radeon HD HD7650 (WhistlerLP); AMD Radeon HD7450 switching between graphics will not work and only intel graphics.

If you use driver listed for win 7 AMD 6630 you will not be able to work neither, even though description on the driver states it is also applicable for win 8.

When is it expected to have solution / driver released for Vostro 3450 and AMD 6630m?

W.
