Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Are others noticing the lack of the scrolling feature after updating to A02 of the synaptics driver in Win 8?

Yes. I have the same problem.

The pad is acting crazy in win 8 . and I lost all extra functions like scrolling, zooming .....

Me too...  My wife is questioning why I chose to "upgrade" to Windows 8 when the touch pad no longer has the scroll function.

Please expedite a Windows 8 driver that includes the scroll function on the touch pad.

Hey all.. I found that I was able to fix my issues by going into the Windows.old folder that is created when you upgrade (if you upgraded)  and pull out the controller for the touch pad and re-set all of the scrolling options. My touch pad now works just as it had! 

Thank you for offering hope. Would you kindly provide more information about where you found the controller in the Windows.old folder, what it's called, and where you put it after you found it? I'm assuming I'll figure out how to reset the scrolling options from there.

I suggest you all post your exact machine models and if your current driver appears to be Synaptics, Alps, or whatever device make.

Then, we might be able to find a Windows 8 compatible version(s). Often, a touchpad driver will work across various Dell machines (even if not stated in file description).

Also, it sounds like some of you are doing in-place or over-lay Win7 to Win8 upgrades ... these are the kinds of problems that appear. Clean install is better.

Untortunately you are going to find your solution will began to cause other issues. I too went by to my previous driver and was at first elated until I began all kind of issues like the mouse pointer not appearing on startup or restart, certain keys on keyboard malfunctioning or not working at all, for example whenever I would be on website and typ the letter t in the address line another tab would open. As you all know that should only happen if you press ctrl+t. Many times keys would not respond while typing unless I struck them multiplle times.

In my opinion this is a major, major, major bug that must be addressed. Even though I went back to updated driver I still am experiencing issues with the keys not responding and occasionally the mouse cursor when appearing after a start or restart. I have Dell Tech Concierge service and those techs, brilliant as they are (NOT) couldn't figure it out. They sent a Worldwide Tech Service agent to my house to replace the keyboard but he couldn't get the screws out from under the back cover out. He tried so hard he stripped one of them now I have to send it in to for a depot repair. What a major headache.

After all the success I eventually have using my XPS8300 (still using Windows 7 though) I am disappointed with the reliability of the XPS15-L521 machine.

I don't have an Alps Touchpad. I have a "Dell touchpad" with and a driver provided by Synaptics. The driver date is 9/20/2012 Version 16.2.12.17

And by the way, while typing most my response to Snagglepuss24 I had no trouble. But when I started typing this response all of a sudden every time I typed the letter t a new tab would open. Then just as sudden as it started it stopped.

and you weren't pressing the CTRL key I assume? Sounds like a reverse key-scan ghosting issue (if that's even a thing).
